A Short Film by Officine-IED Students, Artistic Supervision by Silvio Soldini

A hub of experimentation, committed to promoting young talents for the last 25 years thanks to SaloneSatellite, the Salone has supported the aspiring young filmmakers at the Advanced Training Laboratory in a narration of what building beauty and community means, together.

Watch here the trailer of  “È stato un sogno” (”It Was All A Dream”):

This year, the Salone del Mobile decided to support and promote the commitment and work of the students at OffiCine-IED, collaborating in the production and realisation of the short film entitled È stato un sogno/It Was All A Dream which will feature the young actors Francesco Buttironi and Rossella Cammarano alongside seminal Italian stage and screen actors such as Luigi Diberti and Ida Marinelli, directed by Stefano Balossi.

The project was lucky enough to avail itself of Silvio Soldini, artistic supervisor, and his “exceptional” teaching staff: Bruno Oliviero for the screenplay, Luca Bigazzi for the photography, Carlotta Cristiani and Giorgio Garini for the editing, coordinated by the filmmaker Paolo Borraccetti. The Salone del Mobile.Milano has always backed the younger generations, supporting their creativity and professionalism, in the firm conviction that it is only by helping and promoting budding talents that innovation, new indicators and new beauty can be anticipated and produced. In this way the Salone also demonstrates its willingness to look at design in an increasingly more interdisciplinary and synergic way than in other cultural and societal sectors, being open to a wide range of cross-pollution.

È stato un sogno/It Was All A Dream contains no epic plot or story, majestic sets or Hollywood frames: the Salone suggested that the youngsters at the Advanced Training Laboratory think about a project in which the common thread would be the meaning of building beauty and community inside a space, through the power of relationships. The students came up with a dual interpretation of the concept – physical, through objects and furnishings that are an invitation to share moments and lives, and intangible, through encounter, a metaphor for possible communions of intent.

Co-starring in the short film is a selection of furnishings from Amini, Arper, Artemide, Colos, Desalto, Flos, Kartell, Lago, Lema, Living Divani, Magis, Molteni&C, Poliform and Secto Design, companies that have generously made one of their products available to the OffiCine-IED students to furnish the “sitting room” at the centre of the film – a visual and concrete synonym of a new beginning, inclusive community, industriousness and flair – and at the heart of Milan, which every year, in April, becomes a bridge to the world, thanks to the Salone del Mobile.Milano.

Maria Porro, President of È stato un sogno the Salone del Mobile.Milano, had this to say: “Given that I decided to study scenography because it seemed an art in the round, capable of bringing together literature, architecture and precision planning, watching the screening of this short film and knowing that I did my bit towards it by supporting the students who produced it, through the Salone del Mobile.Milano and some of its major exhibitors, was truly emotional. Our aim is never simply educational – what the Salone seeks to do by reaching out to schools and universities is to facilitate culture-driven creative exchange and innovation and help the next generation of international professionals to emerge and prove themselves.
