Illulian, the Italian brand globally renowned for its custom-made, handcrafted luxury rugs, presents Plumaria, an extraordinary creation that blends craftsmanship and creativity in a unique interpretation of contemporary design. The rug is the result of a collaboration with Argentine designer and architect Daniel Germani and the Parisian plumasserie atelier Maison Février, which, since its founding in 1929, has breathed new life into an ancient tradition, combining innovation and artisanal mastery to create works that transcend the concept of accessory. Over the years, the Maison has collaborated with the most prestigious fashion houses, including Chanel, Dior, and Jean-Paul Gaultier, bringing its art into fashion, entertainment, design, and the arts.

“Plumaria is a tribute to nature and the artisanal gesture. Every stage of the creation, from the delicate carding of the wool to the meticulous hand-application of the feathers, tells a story of passion and savoir-faire. The rug is a sensory journey that intertwines nature, art, and craftsmanship, celebrating the authentic beauty of the material in all its essence. The enveloping softness of Himalayan wool blends with the ethereal lightness of the feathers, creating a tactile and aesthetic symphony that challenges traditional conventions of the textile world. The superior quality of the wool ensures lasting durability, while the handwoven techniques preserve the ancient traditions of rug-making, for a piece destined to stand the test of time.

The design draws inspiration from the breeze moving through tree branches and the delicate flutter of petals in springtime. Leaves and flowers, with their light and delicate shapes, lend the piece a poetic and dreamlike quality that captures attention and enchants the senses. The soft, irregular white base, crafted by the skilled Nepalese artisans of Illulian, becomes the canvas on which the coloured feathers are brought to life, carefully selected and hand-applied by Maison Février’s artisans under the direction of Maxime Leroy, designer and creative director of the atelier. The result is a rug with an ethereal, sculptural character, which, like a work of art, becomes the dominant feature of the space.

“We all worked hard to create an extraordinary project. We chose the luxurious and fine wool selected by Illulian, warm and enveloping, to offer an intense and intimate tactile experience. The monochromatic palette, pure and intentionally discreet, highlights the colourful feathers that become the Plumaria’s strong point,” says Daniel Germani, whose design philosophy is rooted in the balance between functionality and authentic beauty, with particular attention to detail and the selection of authentic materials.
