Lightwood is a versatile collection designed by Jasper Morrison for MARUNI. It is composed of chairs, stools and tables that seamlessly complement various furniture styles and find a perfect place in diverse settings, both in residential and commercial spaces. Both seats and tables are available in a range of wood types and can be customized with various finishes and solutions.
The series, that combines Jasper Morrison’s structure-focused design with MARUNI’s expertise in wood craftsmanship, stands out for the “lightness” of shapes and materials, objects and buildings. The technical realization of such a complex project was possible only thanks to the application of Maruni’s cutting-edge technologies and skills in wood working, that allowed the creation of a light but resistant wooden structure, branded by a simple but refined design and great comfort
At Salone del Mobile.Milano 2023, two new additions were unveiled: a Desk and a Chair with a paper cord seat.
Presented by Le Chateau Living
The desk was designed in 2022 by Jasper Morrison for the Shiroiya Hotel in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Nowadays, remote work has become increasingly common, and online meetings have emerged as a convenient option. It is no secret that desks have become an essential and significant part of the average home. In recognition to this trend, Maruni and Jasper Morrison decided to incorporate this desk into the Lightwood Collection, making slight modifications to the original model: “The solid wood desk which was designed for the hotel project in Japan is now added to the family. The desk has been slightly modified by adding a drawer and making a small change in the panel design. After the pandemic, a desk has become a familiar piece of furniture for everyday life”.
MARUNI regards wooden desks as a vital piece of furniture and the new one by Jasper Morrison, available in maple, oak, or ash is a simple yet beautiful and versatile object, that perfectly matches the gentle lines and charming appearance of the Lightwood Collection.
Lightwood Chair in paper cord seat, as Morrison says “looks as if it has always existed in the series, where the paper cord material naturally matches the chair structure.” This new project also originates form a sustainable approach shared by both the company and the designer, as he declares: “It has also become very important to use materials with low environmental impact for chairs.”
The new version comes to enrich the choice of the Lightwood chairs, already available in different types of wood – maple, oak or ash – with several types of seats – synthetic woven webbing, white mesh upholstered in fabric or leather in different colors.
