Design Between Scales

A quiet exploration of structure and form unfolds through BD Barcelona’s latest presentation—one that moves fluidly between spatial systems and collectible objects. Rather than presenting a singular collection, the brand expands its narrative across two installations, reflecting an ongoing dialogue with long-term collaborators.

At zaza’, BD presents RASTERS, an architectural installation developed with OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen and Muller Van Severen. Originally conceived for Bottega Veneta’s headquarters in Milan, the project has evolved into a flexible system of cabinets and paravents that translates architectural thinking into a domestic scale.

Structured around an open grid, RASTERS explores how space can be defined without being enclosed, balancing division with permeability. Its perforated wooden lattice allows light to pass through, maintaining visual continuity while subtly shaping the environment. In its restraint, the system reads less as furniture and more as an architectural framework—one that quietly organises space without imposing on it.

Extending this dialogue, BD’s presence continues at Ordet through Silhouettes, presented with Apartamento in celebration of fifteen years of Muller Van Severen’s practice. Here, the focus shifts from spatial systems to objects, bringing together works that distil familiar forms into reduced, almost abstract expressions.

A series of aluminium candleholders becomes central to the exhibition, translating everyday typologies—chairs, cabinets, lamps—into sculptural outlines. Stripped to their essential contours, these pieces explore line, volume, and balance, positioning function and form in a more introspective relationship.

Together, the two installations offer complementary perspectives on the designers’ work. Where RASTERS engages with architecture and spatial logic, Silhouettes reflects a more expressive, object-driven approach. Between them, BD Barcelona frames design as an evolving continuum—one that moves seamlessly between structure and object, precision and intuition.
