A Global Culinary Line-up set to Redefine Destination Dining in Kuala Lumpur

As Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur prepares for its 2026 debut, the hotel is shaping an ambitious culinary vision that reflects the growing role of gastronomy in luxury travel. At the center of this vision are two globally acclaimed chefs — Garima Arora and Jean-Georges Vongerichten — who will introduce a collection of dining concepts designed to position the hotel among Southeast Asia’s most compelling culinary destinations.

At the heart of the announcement is Yaari, a modern Indian dining concept by Chef Garima Arora, the chef-owner of Bangkok’s acclaimed two-Michelin-starred restaurant Gaa. Known for her progressive interpretation of Indian cuisine, Arora presents a menu celebrating the breadth of India’s culinary heritage, from tangy southern coastal curries to smoky northern kebabs, alongside refined interpretations of beloved street foods such as chaat. The name Yaari, meaning “friendship” in Hindi, reflects a spirit of warmth and conviviality inspired by Indian hospitality. Desserts influenced by traditional mithai complete the experience, offering playful textures and thoughtful reinterpretations of classic sweets.

“Yaari will celebrate the extraordinary diversity of Indian cuisine in ways that feel both authentic and contemporary,” said Chef Garima Arora. “It comes from my passion for storytelling through food — celebrating heritage, creativity, and the joy of sharing a meal.”

Complementing Arora’s concept, celebrated French chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten will introduce three distinct venues at the hotel: JG KL, abc kitchens KL, and The Bar by JG. Each reflects the chef’s signature culinary language, where refined French technique meets vibrant global influences.

JG KL presents a calm, contemporary dining space where French, American, and Asian flavors converge through seasonal ingredients and balanced contrasts. Meanwhile, abc kitchens KL brings together the farm-to-table philosophy of abc kitchen, the plant-forward creativity of abcV, and the lively Latin influences of abc cocina in a relaxed yet thoughtfully designed setting. Completing the trio, The Bar by JG offers a polished social space where refined small plates meet a carefully curated beverage program. Blending French elegance with the dynamic energy of Southeast Asia, the venue is designed as a lively yet sophisticated gathering place for both guests and locals.

“Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur offers a unique opportunity to bring together a collection of gastronomic experiences with a global perspective,” said Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. “Malaysia’s rich cultural tapestry and vibrant food heritage provide an inspiring backdrop, and I look forward to creating moments that elevate familiar flavours with refined technique.”
