From Earth’s treasures to dazzling Haute Joaillerie

Chopard is launching its latest Haute Joaillerie collection, the Insofu Emerald. This unique collection combines nature’s forces, traceability sustainable luxury, and the Maison’s creativity to create a one-of-a-kind collection. The collection began in 2022 in Paris when Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director, unveiled a 6,225-carat rough emerald, Insofu, meaning “elephant” in the local Bemba language. The gem was named Insofu due to its trunk-like shape and unprecedented size.

The creation of the Insofu Collection involved bringing skilled gem-cutters from India to Geneva workshops to study the gem and propose cuts and facets to reveal its inherent beauty while preserving its unique soul. The process took nearly a year, as emeralds are fragile and require careful handling. The Insofu gem yielded 850 carats of breathtaking emeralds, each a testament to the artisans’ unparalleled skill and dedication.

The first chapter of the Insofu Collection debuted last year during Oscars week with a capsule collection featuring emeralds from Insofu with juicy-red rubellites and touches of sky-blue turquoise. This year, Chopard unveils a new chapter with a Haute Joaillerie collection of 15 exquisite pieces, each reflecting a different facet of the Insofu Emerald’s character.

And the heart of the collection is an elephant-shaped pendant, a tribute to the name Insofu. The pendant features emeralds of various shapes and sizes, framed by shimmering diamonds that form the elephant’s tusks. It is suspended from a long chain interspersed with emeralds and diamonds, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune.

Chopard’s Insofu Collection features a unique blend of Art Deco-inspired chokers, flowing long necklaces, a statement cuff, cocktail rings, and showstopping earrings. The collection is inspired by Francis Scott Fitzgerald‘s masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, and celebrates personal expression through a one-of-a-kind ensemble of four necklaces. The necklaces feature a refined diamond choker, a second necklace with pink sapphires and emeralds, and a long necklace interlaced with emeralds, pearls, and diamonds. A delicate sautoir of pink pearls adds softness to the set.

The collection also features a vertical motif of emerald-studded foliage in a statement cuff, embracing vibrant emerald-cut tsavorites. The design unites the sea and earth, representing the symbiosis of these two realms of nature. Caroline Scheufele, the designer, believes that every stone holds a story and honors the natural magic they carry as treasures from the Earth. The collection is accompanied by five matching gowns, showcasing the craftsmanship of Caroline’s Couture, a collection of couture silhouettes designed as a dialogue between fashion and jewellery. Chopard has pioneered the use of Provenance Proof’s Emerald Paternity Test, which allows for permanent identification of rough stones. This innovative technology further elevates Chopard’s sustainability standards, as Maison has used 100% ethical gold in all its jewellery and watches since July 2018.

The Insofu Collection supports community and conservation projects, with Gemfields, the mining company that unearthed Insofu in Zambia, supporting education, healthcare, livelihoods, and wildlife conservation initiatives. Chopard’s collaboration with Gemfields ensures that the Insofu Collection contributes to these meaningful initiatives, aligning with Maison’s dedication to positively impacting society.
