Triennale Milano Until 12th September 2021

The retrospective of Vico Magistretti, renowned Milanese architect, created in collaboration with the Vico Magistretti Foundation and curated by Gabriele Neri. The retrospective exhibition brings together the heritage of drawings, sketches, models, photographs, prototypes and original pieces preserved in the archive of the architect and designer. The exhibition traces the entire design path of Magistretti, which began right at the Palazzo dell’Arte in the years after the Second World War.

Vico Magistretti

The exhibition is divided into thematic sections, the exhibition presents for the first time the work of Vico Magistretti in a unified manner, from architecture to installations, from design to urban design, together with numerous international contacts.

Red, the distinctive color of many of his projects, constitutes a sort of fil rouge, evoking that union between modernity (the red of the avant-garde) and tradition (the brick red of old Milan) characteristic of his work. Tributes by designers Konstantin Grcic and Jasper Morrison, students of Magistretti at the Royal College of Art in London, are also on display.

Cassina Marulunga

Cassina is the main partner of the Vico Magistretti exhibition
To celebrate the 101st anniversary of the birth of Vico Magistretti, Cassina is part of the first exhibition focused on his work, Vico Magistretti. Architetto milanese’, on show at the Triennale Milano until the 12th of September 2021. Considering the company’s strong bond with the designer, it was impossible for Cassina not to be part of this tribute as Main Partner.

Curated by Gabriele Neri, in collaboration with the Fondazione studio museo Vico Magistretti, the exhibit traces the career of the Milanese architect through drawings, sketches, models, photographs and videos, a number of which are from the Cassina Historical Archive. During the exhibition, original contents will also be shared on the Triennale Milano’s social media channels to recount the history between Cassina and Vico Magistretti.

Vico Magistretti created innovative products with Cassina that have lasted over the years without ever going out of fashion. This partnership began in the 1960s with the Carimate chair (1963) that was designed for the Carimate Golf Club and immediately included in the company’s catalogue.

The professional and personal relationship between Vico Magistretti and Umberto and Cesare Cassina continued to strengthen thanks to the continuous exchange of talent and creativity from a true maestro on the one hand, and the professionality and manufacturing excellence of a pioneering company on the other.

This fruitful collaboration lasted for more than 30 years and gave life to a series of icons that are still today part of the Cassina collection and on show at the exhibition, these include the timeless Maralunga sofa (1973/2014/2018), the 905 small armchair (1964/2018), the Nuvola Rossa bookcase (1977) and the Edison table (1985/2021) that was relaunched again this year.
