DRAGA & AUREL X ROSSANA ORLANDI presenting “Apartment of Wonder” for Milan Design Week 2024.

Apartment of Wonder is a new creative project arising from the partnership between Draga & Aurel and architect Giuliano Andrea dell’Uva for Rossana Orlandi Gallery, to be presented during Milan Design Week 2024. A synergy of visions and artistic sensibilities has brought the rooms of an eclectic apartment to life, where a fusion of art and design is expressed through transparency, color, and contrasting shapes, materials, and styles.

We met Giuliano on the path to expression converted into transparency and color”, says Draga Obradovic.

Transparency experimentation is the exhibition’s standout aspect and leitmotif. The new pieces in the Transparency Matters collection feature dizzying contours and interconnecting shapes, whose surfaces have a “frosted” effect.

Architecture, contemporary art, design, and textile interpretations are locked into an osmotic, winning relationship”, says Giuliano Andrea dell’Uva.

Indeed, these solid and highly architectural objects are contextualized and placed in relation to works of art and site specific art design projects. The atmosphere is completed by a selection of original furnishings, including the original Gae Aulenti armchair and chair Locus Solus, reinterpreted with hand-painted fabrics by Livio De Simone.

Thanks to Architect dell’Uva’s vision and passion for art, the apartment also includes a gallery, designed to house a reserved selection of paintings by Aurel K. Basedow. Powerful, energetic, and textured, Aurel’s artworks arise as the sum of physical expression and release of chromatic tension: with their layered materials – photographs, paint, and resin – they conjure the gesturality and dynamism of their creation.

The new furnishing items presented in the Apartment of Wonder and included in the Transparency Matters collection are:

GLINT Cabinet
The fruit of research into materials and transparency, Glint is an evocative cabinet with an almost impalpable charm. Resulting from the crafting of Lucite sheets subsequently joined into a single form, the doors combine opaline nuances with fluorescent highlights, playing on ethereal transparency in contrast with the cool, glossy metallic structure.

Dimensions: L 90, H 160, D 48 cm

ZEN Table Collection
Monumental and sculptural, the Zen collection is made entirely of Lucite with an icy effect. It features an original use of color, which appears trapped amidst the sharp, dizzying geometry of the table.

Dimensions:
Dining Table L 120, W 170, H 75 cm
Coffee Tables L 35, W 35, H 45; L 40, W 40, H 55; L 55, W 35, H 45 cm

LEWIT Collection (Bed, Desk & Bench)
The monumental bed sculpture Lewit, designed in collaboration with Giuliano Andrea dell’Uva, has been developed into a full collection for the bedroom with desk and bench. This art-design project nods to Brutalist architecture, combining white concrete and transparent turquoise resin with lucite inserts.

Dimensions:
Bed L 330, W 81, H 115 cm
Desk L 128, W 46,5, H 80 cm
Bench L 127, W 45, H 45 cm

Several iconic items from Draga & Aurel’s Transparency Matters collection will complete the display, including the REVERSO partition screen, the JOY CIRCLE lamp, the BEBA and RIVE Armchairs, the BAIA console and coffee tables, and the RAY pendant lamp. These pieces will be reinterpreted with fresh finishes and colors.
