Celebrating A Decade of Redefining Indonesian Contemporary Fashion with His First Couture Collection

Wilsen Willim celebrates a decade of redefining Indonesian contemporary fashion with the debut of his first couture collection, marking a defining new chapter for the label. After establishing his signature through refined ready-to-wear and expanding his creative language with a demi-couture presentation at Plaza Indonesia Fashion Week 2025, the Jakarta-based designer is set to unveil Algorithm: Universal Language at Hotel Mulia Jakarta.

The anniversary collection marks a new chapter, with Wilsen placing Indonesian handwoven textiles at its core, using exclusively natural and sustainable fabrics to highlight the artistry of local weavers. Inspired by the idea that tenun is an ancient algorithm—a complex system of patterns developed long before the digital age—Algorithm: Universal Language explores numbers as a language understood across cultures. This concept is translated into couture through layered constructions and intricate handwoven textiles.

Adding another dimension to the collection, Wilsen introduces innovative tenun crafted from recycled denim fibers. By reimagining one of the world’s most familiar fabrics through Indonesian weaving techniques, he hopes to create a visual language that resonates globally while opening new opportunities for local artisans. The denim-like aesthetic makes the heritage craft instantly relatable to international audiences, reinforcing his vision of sustainability, innovation, and cultural exchange.

“The starting point was a purpose—to create a sustainable interpretation of tenun. Through conversations with artists and fellow creatives, the idea evolved into Algorithm: Universal Language. We realized that tenun itself is an ancient algorithm, a system of patterns and sequences developed long before computers. The collection is inspired by numbers, a universal language understood across cultures. That concept is reflected in handwoven textiles made from recycled denim fibers. Since denim is recognized around the world, it creates a familiar entry point for international audiences to appreciate Indonesian tenun. Ultimately, I hope this approach helps expand the global market for our local weavers while celebrating sustainable craftsmanship.” Wilsen Willim

The 10th anniversary celebration, Algorithm: Universal Language signals Wilsen Willim’s evolution into couture, reaffirming his commitment to sustainability, innovation, and Indonesian craftsmanship onto the global state.
