A Tactile Exploration of Material, Texture, and Craft

Renowned for its refined and innovative wallcoverings, Arte marks its debut at Milan Design Week 2026 with an immersive pop-up showroom in the heart of Brera—introducing a new chapter where surfaces are no longer treated as backdrop, but as expressive, architectural elements.

Gabriela de Sagarminaga

Open from 20 to 26 April, the presentation unfolds as a monochrome installation shaped by materiality and form. Drawing from Memphis and Ancient Egypt, and realised in collaboration with Gabriela de Sagarminaga of Atelier Sagarminaga, the scenography brings together historical references and contemporary craftsmanship in a composition that feels both grounded and quietly striking.

Natural materials—raffia, cork, woven grasses, and shells—are reinterpreted through unexpected applications, revealing the versatility of wallcoverings as a tactile and narrative medium.

“Milan Design Week is the ultimate international stage to show what Arte stands for today… not merely to cover walls, but to let them speak through material, texture and imagination,” says Philippe Desart.

This dialogue continues through Sagarminaga’s contribution, where scenes inspired by Ancient Egypt are translated into life-sized, handcrafted works using natural fibres. Balancing tradition with experimentation, her pieces introduce a sculptural softness—blurring the line between surface, object, and spatial experience.

Together, Arte and Atelier Sagarminaga shape a presentation defined not by spectacle, but by substance. It is a study in material intelligence and artistic restraint, where craftsmanship becomes the narrative, and texture becomes its voice.

Within the context of Milan Design Week, the installation positions Arte within a broader creative discourse—one that values nuance, tactility, and enduring design language.
