The Rite of Spring

Czech sculptor Hana Hillerová’s glass series The Riot of Spring / Glass Joy is inspired by Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. She creates dynamic vessels by pouring molten glass strings onto blown glass bases and shaping them with brass tools, capturing the natural flow and energy of the material.

Her pieces are made from uranium glass, a rare type of glass known for its distinctive green hue that glows brightly under UV light. This glass, first produced in Bohemia in the 1840s, is now made in only a few Czech workshops due to historical restrictions on uranium. The combination of this unusual material and Hillerová’s craftsmanship makes her vessels uniquely striking and captivating.
