A New Rhythm in Texture
Gervasoni gives the humble cabinet a little more character with Tapies, a collection that shows how much personality a surface can bring to a piece. Clean volumes meet tactile textures, rhythmic lines and carefully considered details, turning sideboards and cabinets into quietly expressive pieces of furniture.

Curated by Concetta Giannangeli, Tapies comes in different configurations while maintaining a consistent visual language. Its MDF structure is finished in painted, troweled concrete, with fine vertical lines running regularly across the fronts. The effect is subtle yet distinctive, adding depth and movement to an otherwise restrained form.

The details continue to play with that balance. Rather than conventional feet, a trapezoidal element extends each cabinet seamlessly to the floor, giving it a solid, grounded silhouette. Tempered glass shelves and handles then lighten the composition, introducing a touch of transparency and a delicate contrast to the concrete surface.

It is this interplay that gives Tapies its character. Across its different sizes and proportions, the collection remains clean and cohesive, balancing geometry with craftsmanship without making either feel overly serious. The result is contemporary furniture with enough texture to keep things interesting.

And that curiosity about materials is hardly new for Gervasoni. It has been part of the Italian company’s design language since its beginnings in 1882, evolving over generations through an ongoing dialogue between traditional craftsmanship, new techniques and contemporary design. Tapies feels like a natural continuation of that approach, where the surface is not simply applied to the furniture but becomes part of its visual identity.

Today, the family-run company is led by third generation Giovanni and Michele Gervasoni and remains based in Pavia di Udine, where it develops furniture for residential, hospitality, contract and marine settings. With a presence in more than 80 countries, Gervasoni is now part of Italian group Dexelance, while continuing to develop its collections through collaborations with architects and designers.

That wider design universe includes Very Wood, established following the 2009 acquisition of IFA and dedicated to contract and hospitality, as well as Rex Kralj, whose production, sales and marketing activities have been under Gervasoni’s control since 2024. Its Milan flagship on Via Durini also provides a dedicated meeting point for architects, interior designers and other design professionals.

With Tapies, Gervasoni keeps that long-standing curiosity looking refreshingly current. The geometry stays composed, the details stay considered, and the surface gets to play a little along the way.
