Where Form Meets Ease
A piece of furniture can change the way we perceive a space—not only through its shape, but through the way silhouette, material, and light interact. This delicate balance of presence and restraint defines the VESPER | ARMCHAIR, designed by Atelier D.Q. for Japanese brand Ritzwell.

Inspired by Vesper, the evening star that appears as daylight gives way to darkness, the armchair has a quiet yet distinctive presence. Its signature crescent-shaped backrest extends forward in one continuous curve, replacing conventional armrests with a gentle embrace that naturally supports the body and encourages a relaxed posture.

That sense of suspension comes through in its slender steel-rod structure. Available in black or stainless steel with subtle copper-toned nuances, the delicate framework makes the walnut structure and upholstered volume appear almost suspended in mid-air. Clean lines and contrasting materials come together in a composition that feels effortless while remaining deeply comfortable.

But VESPER’s appeal goes beyond its silhouette. Craftsmanship is an essential part of the experience. Made in Fukuoka, Japan, the armchair reflects Ritzwell’s attention to artisanal detail through precise hand-stitched welting and softly gathered upholstery, carefully shaped by hand. Whether finished in leather or fabric, each material follows the contours of the chair with an almost sartorial precision.

The choice of materials is equally considered for the passage of time. Wood, metal, leather, and fabric gradually absorb traces of everyday life, developing a richer character and distinctive patina as they age. This idea of beauty evolving with time echoes furubi, a Japanese aesthetic concept that embraces the character revealed through age and use.

With its carefully calibrated proportions and harmonious combination of wood, metal, and upholstery, VESPER is designed to sit naturally alongside other Ritzwell pieces. Its understated character works equally well in dining spaces, studies, lounges, and sophisticated contract interiors, while its distinctive silhouette gives it a presence of its own.

Refined in appearance, meticulous in detail, and designed to become more personal with time, VESPER is more than a place to sit. It is an object designed to quietly become part of the life around it.
