The Shakers: A World in the Making
Vitra Design Museum | 7 June – 28 September 2025
In summer 2025, the Vitra Design Museum will present a major exhibition exploring the American Shaker community and their unique design culture. Featuring historic Shaker objects and contemporary art works, the exhibition reflects on the Shakers’ influence on modern design and their ongoing relevance today. The exhibition presentation by Formafantasma features a variety of Shaker furniture, tools, and goods. Contemporary artists like Chris Halstrøm, Christien Meindertsma, and Kameelah Janan Rasheed will exhibit alongside historical items, exploring the ongoing significance of the Shaker community. These new works will prompt visitors to interact and reflect on the unique experiment of the Shakers across the centuries.

Catwalk!

Fashion shows are important events in the fashion industry, serving as marketing tools and social gatherings. They combine various elements such as stage design, performance, clothing, light, and sound to create a total work of art. The exhibition “Catwalk! ” delves into the evolution of fashion shows, from their origins in couturiers’ salons to the extravagant events of today. It features iconic fashion shows from designers like Alexander McQueen, Chanel, and Prada through film and photo footage, original runway pieces, and stage props.
