Be the Project — A Return to Process, Where Design Becomes a Way of Being
From 20 to 26 April 2026, Milan once again becomes a living landscape of design. Alongside Salone del Mobile.Milano, Fuorisalone unfolds across the city—an expansive constellation of exhibitions, installations, and encounters shaping the global design conversation.

This year, “Be the Project” shifts the focus inward. Rather than celebrating finished forms, it reframes design as an evolving, human process—intuitive, imperfect, and in constant motion.

Paolo Casati
At its core, the idea is simple yet radical: design is not defined by outcomes, but by the act of making. It lives in the dialogue between thought and material, between error and discovery, where even failure becomes a generative force.

Paolo Casati & Cristian Confalonieri
“The project is not an object, but a condition,” notes Paolo Casati, Co-founder and Creative Director of Studiolabo—describing a shift from result to process, where design unfolds through attempts, intuitions, and relationships. In this sense, it becomes not just form-making, but “a way of thinking and interpreting the world.”

Presented by Magran Living
Nowhere is this more tangible than in Brera Design Week, where Essere Progetto frames design as a cultural process. The district transforms into a living laboratory—fluid, relational, and deeply embedded in the rhythm of the city.

Across Milan, this perspective extends through districts including Tortona, Isola, Porta Venezia, and 5VIE—each offering distinct interpretations, from material experimentation to immersive, hybrid environments. The dialogue also expands globally through Osaka Design Week, establishing a new bridge between Milan and Japan through craftsmanship and contemporary design culture.

Artemest | Rimadesio | Fornasetti | MoscaPartners Variations
A parallel narrative unfolds through art. The ongoing collaboration with miart introduces a more fluid, cross-disciplinary lens—where, as Nicola Ricciardi describes, the city becomes “an open score,” shaped by movement, improvisation, and unexpected encounters.

BASE Milano | Superstudio Design | Alcova | Tortona Rocks
Within this constellation, a series of installations and exhibitions quietly anchor the week:
• CUPRA presents Beyond the Known, exploring design as an experimental and evolving process
• IKEA presents Food For Thought, connecting food, rituals, and domestic life through design.
• Artemest presents L’Appartamento, celebrating Italian craftsmanship within a historic Milanese setting.
• Rimadesio introduces BECOMING, marking its 70th anniversary through an immersive narrative.
• Fornasetti unveils Forever Fornasetti. New Encounters, a renewed spatial experience and evolving identity.
• Nilufar presents Nilufar Grand Hotel and La Casa Magica, exploring collectible design and symbolic living.
• MoscaPartners Variations at Palazzo Litta explores Metamorphosis as a continuous design transformation.
• BASE Milano presents Hello, Darkness — a layered program of exhibitions, performances, and research.
• Superstudio introduces Superstudio Design, a multi-location platform for global brands and emerging talents.
• Alcova returns with new sites, where preservation meets experimentation across unexpected architectural spaces.
• Osaka Design Week introduces a new international platform connecting Milan and Japan through design and craftsmanship

Brera Design Week
Among the highlights, the Fuorisalone Award continues to map emerging directions across Design Week. As co-founder Cristian Confalonieri suggests, it acts as a shared curatorial lens—capturing not only standout projects, but the evolving cultural narratives behind them.

Jannelli & Volpi | Tropicalistic e Neia Paz Segafredo | Mobitec | STARK Albori
Beyond its scale, Fuorisalone 2026 is ultimately defined by its attitude. “Be the Project” positions design as an ethical and poetic act—one that embraces process, uncertainty, and transformation.

VEUVE CLICQUOT | Arte | Freifrau Manufakture | Portanuova Blooming Imperfections
In a time shaped by speed and constant production, Milan offers a different rhythm—where design is not only presented, but lived, questioned, and continuously redefined.
