French Design, Reimagined Through Movement
Conceived as a scenographic journey in the heart of Brera, Le Design Défilé proposes a new way of encountering furniture — not as static forms, but as living objects shaped by gesture, rhythm, and time. Presented as part of Milano Design Week 2026, the project unfolds like a runway, where design steps into motion and enters a quiet dialogue with the body.

At Le Design Défilé, design rarely stands still. Instead, it begins with movement, with furniture conceived as something that lives alongside the body — shaped by gestures, pauses, and the quiet rhythm of everyday life. What unfolds is not a conventional display, but an experience that encourages visitors to slow down and look again. French design in motion becomes the subtle thread running through the exhibition.

Borrowing its cues from fashion, the exhibition space unfolds like a runway. Conceived by Jakob+MacFarlane, the scenography guides the eye through light, proportion, and sequence, allowing each piece to emerge momentarily before gently dissolving back into space. Objects are framed not to be fixed, but to be encountered — reinforcing the idea of a runway for objects, where furniture replaces models and movement replaces spectacle.

“We wanted to question the way design is perceived today. The runway became a metaphor — objects in evolution, engaging with the body and leaving a sensory trace within space.” — Brendan MacFarlane, Co-founder of Jakob+MacFarlane —

As visitors navigate the installation, furniture is neither distant nor untouchable. Materials, textures, and proportions respond subtly to the body in motion, fostering a more intimate relationship between design and its user. When design meets the body, the experience becomes tactile and personal, defined by proximity rather than display.

Running quietly beneath the scenographic gestures is a deep respect for craft. Across a curated selection of French creations, craftsmanship is treated not as nostalgia but as a living language. Traces of gesture, material honesty, and savoir-faire surface in each piece, reflecting a dialogue between heritage and contemporary ways of living. Craft as a living narrative unfolds through details — in finishes, joins, and the quiet intelligence of making.

Beyond aesthetics, the project reflects a thoughtful approach to sustainability. From locally sourced materials to a fully recyclable scenography, the choices behind the exhibition remain intentionally understated. Towards a more conscious future, responsibility is framed not as a declaration, but as a natural extension of design thinking — affirming that conscious design can also be poetic, sensorial, and enduring.

At the intersection of design, movement, and space, Le Design Défilé offers a distinctly French perspective within the global landscape of Milano Design Week — one that values restraint, craft, and the human experience as much as form itself.
