Dialogue Between Technology and Heritage

On the occasion of Milano Design Week 2026, ILTI Luce—an Italian brand known for its research-driven approach to architectural lighting—joins INTERNI magazine’s INTERNI MATERIAE to present Luce Massiccia alla Statale. The installation unfolds within the historic courtyards of Università degli Studi di Milano, where Ca’ Granda becomes a site of quiet transformation through light.

Conceived as an energy arriving from afar, the installation inhabits—rather than alters—the architectural fabric. Walls, vaults, and colonnades are gently activated as light moves with precision and restraint, revealing layers of spatial depth that often remain unnoticed.

Designed by Alexander Bellman using ILTI Luce’s Miniflux linear system, the intervention reads as a series of slender, continuous strokes—almost like lines drawn in air. These “pencils of light” trace the space with subtle clarity, integrating seamlessly into the architecture while enhancing its material presence. More than illumination, light becomes a tool of interpretation—defining volumes, accentuating details, and guiding the eye without ever imposing itself.

Presented by Interni Cipta Selaras

Cantilevered elements introduce depth and movement, allowing shadows and reflections to shift with the viewer’s perspective. The scenography remains fluid and atmospheric, shaped by a careful balance between presence and absence, precision and softness.

“With Miniflux, we wanted to offer designers a precise and discreet tool—a continuous, controlled light that can inhabit historic architecture without imposing itself,” notes Andrea Spallino, CEO of ILTI Luce. “For Milano Design Week 2026, Ca’ Granda becomes a place where technology and design culture meet, and where light reveals—rather than replaces—the identity of the space.”
