Exhibition and Book Launch
In Granville, the seaside town where Christian Dior spent his formative years, the Christian Dior Museum has opened a new exhibition that examines the origins of the designer’s aesthetic. Running from April 4 through Nov. 1, 2026, the show coincides with the 80th anniversary of Dior and focuses on the influence of place and upbringing on the house’s visual identity.

Dior Exhibition
The exhibition is staged in Dior’s childhood residence, the Villa Les Rhumbs, a clifftop property overlooking the English Channel. Its interiors—defined by muted gray and pale pink tones—have long been cited as the basis for one of Dior’s most recognizable color codes. Curators position the house not simply as backdrop, but as a primary source of the designer’s vocabulary, from his interest in structured elegance to his recurring references to gardens and florals.

Dior Exhibition
Roughly 250 archival objects are on view, including garments, fragrance artifacts and photographs. Together, they trace a line between Dior’s early environment and later output, highlighting influences such as seaside leisurewear, local festivals and a sustained interest in British style, shaped in part by the view toward Jersey from the villa’s upper floors.

The exhibition also reflects how these early references have been sustained and recalibrated over decades by successive creative directors, most recently Jonathan Anderson. The approach reflects a broader strategy within luxury fashion: reinforcing brand continuity by returning to foundational narratives while adapting them to current contexts.

Dior Exhibition
A companion volume, Dior: Memories of Childhood, published by Rizzoli and written by Laurence Benaïm, expands on the theme. Drawing on archival material, it presents Dior’s early life as both personal history and brand blueprint.

The exhibition, together with an accompanying book, reflects the house’s foundational narratives, consistently revisited and reinterpreted across generations.
