Introducing Vera and Umasi
At Volumnia, Davide Groppi: One Hour of Light unfolds as a refined monographic exhibition charting nearly four decades of the designer’s practice. Curated by Marco Sammicheli and on view from 26 March to 26 May 2026, the presentation positions light as both material and narrative—capable of shaping space, perception, and emotion.

Widely recognized for his distilled and poetic approach, Davide Groppi constructs an experiential journey that moves between function and abstraction. The exhibition opens with five “utopias of light,” a series of conceptual works that oscillate between the possible and the imaginary. Installed within inhabited walls, these pieces read as luminous gestures—at times defying utility—to reveal light in its most evocative form.

Set within the nave of the Church of Sant’Agostino, the scenography introduces a sequence of minimal, geometric volumes that punctuate the historic architecture. A threshold marked by the MOON lamp signals the beginning of the path, where light becomes a guiding presence—subtle yet theatrical—establishing a dialogue between contemporary design and the layered memory of the site.

Presented by Coulisse | INK

The exhibition also debuts new works, including VERA, a limited-edition lamp created for Volumnia, where the light source appears as a hologram, merging illusion with technical precision. Alongside it, UMASI is presented as a preview, extending Groppi’s ongoing exploration of light as an expressive medium.

One Hour of Light operates as a carefully staged experience offering a distilled moment of wonder.
