Material Narratives

Broadview Materials introduces ArchiThoughts–ArchiTouch at Milan Design Week 2026, marking the third chapter of an ongoing exhibition curated by Federica Sala. Hosted at FENIX Scenario and set within an installation by (AB)NORMAL, the project brings together six international studios, including Marion Mailaender, Parasite 2.0, RedDuo Studio, STORAGEMILANO, Studio GGSV, and ZIMMER, to explore how surfaces move beyond finish—becoming spatial, tactile, and immersive.

Lauze by ZIMMER

Part of a research initiated in 2024 by Musa and Federica Sala, the exhibition unfolds as a trilogy developed with FENIX and Formica. In its 2026 edition, the project culminates with Arpa, shifting its focus toward architecture through micro-architectures—domestic-scale interventions where material defines not only surface, but volume and interaction itself.

“Third chapter of a trilogy aimed at giving surfaces a three-dimensional landing, ArchiThoughts–ArchiTouch is a research project disguised as a divertissement. Yet it cannot be read independently from the two previous chapters,” explains Federica Sala. “With Arpa®, we approach architecture not with a capital A, but at a more domestic scale—where materials become inhabitable architectural volumes.”

At the center of this chapter, Arpa brings forward a material culture rooted in Italian manufacturing, combining aesthetic research with technical innovation. Known for its high-pressure laminates and refined finishes, the brand continues to evolve its identity, introducing a renewed visual language during Milan Design Week 2026.

As part of Broadview Materials—alongside brands including Homapal and Getacore—the exhibition highlights materials not only for their performance, but for their sensory qualities. Deep textures, layered finishes, and tactile surfaces engage both touch and sight, designed to endure over time while enriching everyday environments.

Among the previewed works, Open Volume by RedDuo Studio unfolds from a closed monolith into a convivial, sound-driven environment.

“From a closed and silent volume to an open and convivial device, Open Volume is activated by a gesture, transforming structure into rhythm,” explain the designers. “Sound, light, and material create a shared experience—celebrating music and the pleasure of coming together.”

In contrast, Lauze by ZIMMER takes on a quieter presence—a luminous vertical structure where repetition and subtle misalignments create depth and rhythm across the surface.

“Lauze is not a lamp in the conventional sense, but a vertical micro-architecture—a constructive fragment that becomes an object,” explains ZIMMER. “Surface, gesture, and light meet in a controlled balance, where repetition transforms into variation.”

Across ArchiThoughts–ArchiTouch, surfaces shift from finish to structure—shaping atmosphere, interaction, and the spatial experience of contemporary interiors.
