Fusion Between Modern Design with The Ancient Kumi-Himo Techniques
After making its debut at Euroluce/Salone del Mobile.Milano 2023, Studio Row is back with the new lighting called Musubi Wall Lamp. The designer Hiroki Hakamada founder of Studio Row knows for bringing a fusion between modern design with Japanese high craftsmanship.

Hiroki Hakamada
Musubi wall lamp is a result of the collaboration with Ryuta Fukuda from Ryu-Kobo, an important workshop founded in 1963 that has always used the Kumi-himo techniques, a historical Japanese weave.
The symbol of a union between utility and beauty, Kumi-himo was initially used in Buddhist ceremonies, then became a sign of authority in noble dress and even later was used to decorate the swords and armours of Samurai warriors. A unique weave that represents a distinctive trait of Japanese elegance and pride to this day.

This thousand-year-old craft is enhanced on Musubi, after extensive experimentations, through the relationship with light, to once again convey the perfect union between history and modern design. Made of brass, Kumi-himo and frosted glass with LED lights, Musubi is a precious lamp where every part is finished and assembled by hand.
A work of true craftsmanship that is also the result of the company’s great flexibility. Thanks to its continuous dialogue with the Ryu-Kobo workshop, STUDIO ROW has always been able to perfectly express the synergy between the young generations of designers and the world of traditional industry to hand down ancient knowledge and lead it into the future.

Musubi lamp is distinctively a union between modern design with the ancient Kumi-himo techniques resulted a contemporary lighting.
