Christian Dior’s ligne H collection of Autumn-Winter 1954-55 reinterpreted with a play of volumes & shape shifting
Dior Men’s Winter 2025-2026 collection presented on January 24, 2025, at the prestigious Éscole Militaire in Paris, marked another innovative chapter under the Artistic Director of Kim Jones. Drawing inspiration from Christian Dior’s “Ligne H” of Autumn-Winter 1954-1955, the collection reimagined house’s heritage with a contemporary flair.

“Mr Dior’s Ligne H was in our heads even before going into the archive this season. It has elements that are graphic and angular, which felt eminently transferable into the men’s world. We believed it was time to focus on Mr Dior again. We wanted to go back to the roots and concentrate on the quintessence of the house. There is a sense of fashion history, particularly the history of menswear, running through this collection. The shift from something quite ornate and extravagant in the eighteenth century to something more linear and utilitarian in the nineteenth, with the beginnings of modern menswear. Yet, while a lot refers to the history of fashion, this is not historical fashion. Ultimately, in this collection, we wanted to say something about now.” KIM JONES
Some of the collection comes with streamlined silhouettes with a focus on elongated coats reminiscent of capes. Volumes play a key role, shifting from fitted to flared silhouettes. This is exemplified by the repetition of robes and opera coats, whose dramatic, full shapes are cinched with belts, drawing inspiration from Dior’s women’s archive. The collection emphasizes the use of noble fabrics and finishes, with silks and satins taking centre stage. Despite their opulence, the silhouettes maintain a sense of restraint, underpinned by a sense of rigor and monumental presence.

Light and texture are integral to the designs, with a focus on sheen, drapery, and a chiaroscuro effect that brings depth and dimension to the collection. The result is a refined exploration of elegance, shape-shifting, and timeless artistry in menswear.
The presentation was marked by a remarkably minimalist set design, where models descended a white staircase, allowing the focus to remain on the garments’ craftsmanship and design. Essentially, Kim Jones has reinterpreted classic Dior codes with a contemporary flair, resulting in a collection that is both innovative and timeless.
