Loved for its futuristic looks and configurable shade, Louis Weisdorf’s iconic Multi-Lite is one of the most recognizable lighting collections of the 20th century. GUBI’s introduction of the Multi-Lite Portable brought new degrees of versatility to what was already one of the most flexible lamps available. Now, the Muti-Lite Portable becomes more adaptable still, with a range of four new colorways and a striking high-gloss finish, giving the lamp tactility and enabling it to complement an even wider variety of settings, indoors and out.
Released in 1972, during the ‘golden age’ of Danish design, the Multi-Lite’s early iterations featured a high-gloss finish on the signature interactive shade, giving the design depth and texture. GUBI’s new editions bring back the glossy look, imbuing the collection with a gleaming new expression while restoring its original aesthetic.

“GUBI is excited to continue evolving this brilliantly versatile lighting collection and an important piece of design history. The Multi-Lite Portable Lamp’s new colors – both the of-the-moment energy of Pale Lilac and Teal Green and the classic luxe of Black Brass and Pastel Gray – give a fresh and gloriously glossy new expression to a genuinely iconic design.”
– Marie Kristine Schmidt, Chief Brand Officer, GUBI –
Reflecting contemporary color trends, GUBI has added two new colors to the chrome-based Multi-Lite Portable Lamp: Pale Lilac – a soft floral purple; and Teal Green – a nature-inspired shade that is both dramatic and calming. Both colors evoke the pop stylings of the 1980s – fresh, unconventional, and complementing both each other and the silver sheen of the chrome base.
Alongside these, GUBI presents a pair of new colors for the Multi-Lite Portable in brass. Restrained and classic, the Pastel Gray color emphasizes the essential form of the lamp, celebrating its simplicity. In contrast, the Black Brass edition – with matching colors on the base and inner and outer shades – creates a sophisticated, shadowy silhouette, contributing to an atmosphere of sultriness and luxury.
These four new colors join the existing Multi-Lite Portable family, featuring black or brass shades with a brass base, and white or chrome shades with a chrome base. Like all versions of the Multi-Lite Portable, they are fitted with a three-level touch-activated dimmer switch and a USB-C charging unit. The charging time is six hours for a full charge, providing six and a half hours of light at full brightness, and three hours to reach 80% capacity.
Lightweight, and easy to carry thanks to the design’s signature ring serving as a pleasingly tactile handle, the Multi-Lite Portable moves seamlessly around and outside the home. With the new color selection offering a choice between retro playfulness and classic elegance, and the original glossy finish restored, Weisdorf’s light shines.
