A capsule collection that reimagines Indonesian silhouettes for the modern wardrobe

For Wilsen Willim and Dian Sastrowardoyo, the collaboration seems to have been written into the narrative long before they are officially named. From Dian wearing Wilsen’s beskap-inspired tailoring during Gadis Kretek promotions at BIFF 2023, to her return as Dasiyah and later as the closing figure in Wilsen Willim’s 2024 presentation. Their latest collaboration feels less like a first meeting than the natural next chapter of an ongoing conversation.

Launched on National Kebaya Day, Wilsen Willim x Dian Sastrowardoyo – Part One brings together a shared appreciation for Indonesian heritage and a distinctly contemporary wardrobe. Thirteen ready-to-wear pieces reinterpret the Kebaya Kartini, Kutubaru, Janggan, Beskap, Surjan and Sikepan Hussar through shirts, skirts, corsets and outerwear designed for a more modern way of dressing.

Rendered in restrained tone of white, black, burgundy, navy and deep green, the capsule collection allows Indonesian silhouettes to feel remarkably current—equally at home with traditional wastra or contemporary separates. Cotton, suiting fabrics, jacquard and hand-drawn Cirebon batik further anchor the collection in craftsmanship without allowing tradition to become costume.

Dian is more than the face of the collaboration. Together with her team, she contributed ideas and curated elements of the collection, shaping a wardrobe that reflects her own vision of the kebaya: lighter, more casual and designed to move beyond ceremonial dressing into everyday life.

“I want the kebaya to become part of Indonesian women’s everyday lives—through a more casual approach and comfortable, breathable materials, while still preserving its cultural values and identity,” said Dian Sastrowardoyo during a private viewing luncheon with close friends at Plataran Dharmawangsa on July 29, 2026.

For Wilsen Willim, the collaboration arrives at a pivotal moment. Marking a decade of his creative journey, it is both a celebration of what has been built and the beginning of what comes next. Following Algorithm: Universal Language, the project extends his exploration of Indonesian culture into a new, more collaborative territory.

The capsule collection is currently presented as part of Heritage Reimagined at ASHTA District 8, an exhibition that places Indonesian heritage in conversation with contemporary creativity. Open to the public until August 30, 2026, the presentation offers visitors an opportunity to experience the collaboration alongside Wilsen Willim’s broader exploration of Indonesian craft, textiles and design.

In this collaboration, Wilsen Willim x Dian Sastrowardoyo proposes heritage as something living—not preserved, but worn, reinterpreted and carried forward.
