A Hotel Takeover Marks The Debut of Tom Dixon’s AW26 Collections
At Milan Design Week 2026, British designer Tom Dixon introduces an unconventional stage for his latest creations: a 12-room micro hotel called Mua Mua. Conceived as a temporary takeover during the design fair, the space will host the debut of Dixon’s AW26 collections across lighting, furniture, and accessories before reopening later as a fully operational boutique hotel.

Located at Via Aosta 2 within the historic Mulino Estate, the project transforms a site originally designed in 1929 by architects Chiodi and Gio Ponti for the Sordelli family. The interiors are reimagined by Dixon’s design practice, Design Research Studio (DRS), turning the building into a fully immersive environment where design, hospitality, and storytelling converge.

This year Dixon integrates each piece of the collection directly into the hotel’s rooms and communal spaces. The result is a setting where visitors encounter the designs in everyday contexts—from bedrooms to lounges—blurring the lines between showroom, retail, and living space.

For Dixon, the hotel concept represents the next evolution of his Milan presentations, which in past years have occupied venues ranging from cinemas to tunnels and even a functioning restaurant. A hotel, he notes, offers the ideal design stage: a place where people eat, meet, sleep, work, and experience the city.

With just twelve rooms and collaborations with selected partners yet to be revealed, Mua Mua Hotel aims to be more than a temporary installation. The project signals a longer-term ambition—using design not only to stage new collections but also to create lasting spaces that foster regeneration and new narratives in contemporary interiors.
