Unveilling The 1919 Armchair and the Isidoro Trunk-Bar

Poltrona Frau x Fornasetti continues their creative dialogue for Milan Design Week 2025, unveiling re-editions of two iconic pieces: the 1919 armchair and the Isidoro trunk-bar. Both designs are reimagined in Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® Impact Less leather, printed with Fornasetti’s Ultime Notizie—a surreal collage of butterflies and newsprint from the brand’s historic archive.

Part of The Five Seasons 2025 collection, these pieces blend Italian craftsmanship with artistic storytelling. The 1919 armchair, designed by Renzo Frau, remains a hallmark of Poltrona Frau’s legacy—a bergère in hand-pleated leather with a capitonné backrest and sculpted scroll arms. Its pairing with Fornasetti’s poetic motif adds a layer of imaginative provocation to its classic silhouette.

The Isidoro trunk-bar, originally created by Jean-Marie Massaud in 2007, evokes the glamour of transatlantic travel and Art Deco indulgence. Its walnut-stained wood frame opens to reveal shelves, drawers, and bottle racks, all lined in the Ultime Notizie leather. Both playful and functional, it bridges nostalgia with contemporary artistry.

The Ultime Notizie pattern was first conceived in 1950 by Piero Fornasetti and later adapted by his son Barnaba Fornasetti, who describes its message as a gentle reminder: “Don’t dwell on the news, because the news is fleeting.”
