Designing Spaces for Connection

As the ways we work continue to evolve, so too do the spaces designed to support them. Making its international debut at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, Japanese design brand NII presents Ingenious Design, a furniture collection shaped by flexibility, connection, and more intuitive ways of gathering. Born within ITOKI Corporation—the Japanese furniture company founded in 1890—the brand reimagines workplace environments not as static settings, but as adaptable systems that encourage creativity, collaboration, and human connection.

Developed in collaboration with international designers including AMDL CIRCLE, Todd Bracher, Rodolfo Agrella, and Jun Aizaki / CRÈME, the collection also offers an early look at upcoming works by Industrial Facility. Under the creative direction of Hirotaka Tako, NII translates ITOKI’s long-standing philosophy—”AI × Design Based on PEOPLE”—into spaces shaped around evolving workplace rituals and shared experiences.

Among the highlights is BITMAP, designed by Todd Bracher, a modular seating concept that rethinks traditional lounge typologies through playful flexibility. Composed of asymmetrical rectangular volumes that blur the line between seating, side table, and gathering point, the piece is designed to adapt to different ways of interacting—whether side-by-side, face-to-face, or in more spontaneous ways.

“BITMAP challenges the way we think about lounge seating,” explains Todd Bracher. “Instead of dictating how people should sit or gather, it creates an open framework for exploration.” Conceived for intuitive use, the collection proposes a more fluid way of engaging with space, supporting everything from focused work to informal meetings and spontaneous exchange.

Equally rooted in adaptability is CONNEXA, a table system by Rodolfo Agrella that reimagines furniture as an infrastructure for conversation. Defined by an exposed framework and transparent glass tops, the collection balances visual lightness with an organic character inspired by biophilic forms, allowing flexible compositions that encourage gathering and dialogue.

“CONNEXA is a playful and poetic approach to gather around a table for sharing ideas,” says Agrella, who likens the transparent surfaces to lakes and rivers animated by details reminiscent of blooming water lilies. Designed to move fluidly between residential, hospitality, and workplace settings, the collection proposes a softer, more communal approach to shared spaces.

For PIGNA, Milan-based studio AMDL CIRCLE reimagines the workplace through a modular micro-architecture that balances openness and intimacy. Combining a sofa with shingle-inspired divider panels, the system creates semi-private settings that gently filter light and visibility while maintaining a connection to the surrounding space.

Available in different privacy configurations, PIGNA is designed to shape atmospheres and informal areas for gathering and conversation. “PIGNA is a dynamic, ever-evolving system: a new way of shaping work and social spaces,” notes AMDL CIRCLE, underscoring the collection’s adaptable and architectural character.

Meanwhile, PARLAMENTO, designed by Jun Aizaki / CRÈME, draws on the sculptural comfort of 1970s lounge seating, translating it into a modular system for today’s fluid workplaces. Composed of sofas and tables in varying heights and configurations, the collection brings together hospitality and workplace environments through soft, curvilinear forms that encourage spontaneous interaction.

“Designed for the way we gather, work, and connect today,” says Jun Aizaki, PARLAMENTO introduces a more inviting approach to modular furniture—one equally at home in both workplace and hospitality settings.

Rather than defining workspaces through function alone, NII imagines environments that feel more intuitive, adaptable, and human—where furniture becomes a catalyst for connection, creativity, and shared experiences.
