MARIMEKKO TURNS FLOWERS INTO A WAY OF LIVING AT MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2026

Some spaces are designed to be visited, while others are meant to be experienced. Created for Milan Design Week 2026, Osteria Fiori di Marimekko invites visitors into a world where flowers move beyond ornamentation to shape moments of gathering, dining, and everyday beauty. Playful yet immersive, the concept unfolds as a joyful expression of living—where interiors, gastronomy, and design naturally converge.

During Milan Design Week 2026, Marimekko transforms a space along Via Ascanio Sforza into a vibrant destination that feels equally intimate and imaginative. Bold textile compositions meet the fragrant presence of blooming wisteria and jasmine, while colorful settings extend across a patio, glazed terrace, private dining room, and garden—softly blurring the boundaries between hospitality, culture, and home.

Flowers have long existed at the heart of Marimekko’s visual identity. Since the 1960s, beginning with Maija Isola’s pioneering prints, the house has continually reinterpreted florals through different artistic voices. At Osteria Fiori di Marimekko, that heritage takes on a more sensory form, inviting visitors not only to observe design, but to momentarily live within it.

The experience naturally extends into gastronomy through a Finnish-inspired aperitivo concept by Helsinki-based restaurant Maukku, led by Chef Maud Saddok. Flower-infused beverages and thoughtfully crafted bites echo the playful forms and vibrant palette of Marimekko’s prints, transforming dining into another layer of design storytelling.

At the center of the experience is Kukasta kukkaan, Marimekko’s newest floral print by Erja Hirvi. Meaning “from flower to flower,” the hand-painted motif captures an uplifting composition of blossoms inspired by the gentle wandering of bumblebees. Throughout the activation, the print comes to life through oversized textile installations, fabric details, and an exclusive collection of limited-edition ceramics—from espresso cups and small plates to sculptural serving pieces inspired by individual floral elements.

For Marimekko Creative Director Rebekka Bay, the project reflects the house’s enduring dialogue between art, design, fashion, and architecture. As Bay describes it, Osteria Fiori di Marimekko is “an engaging dialogue between the abstract and the literal nature of flowers”—a feeling that quietly unfolds throughout the experience, where florals move beyond pattern into atmosphere and moments of connection.

More than a temporary installation, Osteria Fiori di Marimekko reflects a growing desire for design to feel lived rather than simply observed. Here, flowers become more than motifs on textiles or ceramics—they become gestures of gathering, creativity, and optimism, gently woven into the rituals of everyday life.
