Handcrafted in Rajasthan using Sustainable Wool and Silk

Jaipur Rugs, India’s largest handmade rug manufacturer, has teamed up with Dutch designer Richard Hutten to create Playing with Tradition, a vibrant nine-piece collection debuting at Milan Design Week 2025 (April 7-13). This collection reinterprets hand-knotted wool rugs by blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design and playful elements.

Hutten, known for his innovative work—including the Table Chair displayed in MoMA and the V&A Museum—infuses Jaipur Rugs’ artistry with bold 3D textures, layered motifs, and lively confetti-inspired patterns inspired by India’s Holi festival. The whimsical banana motif pays homage to the humor of silent film legends like Charlie Chaplin.

Handcrafted in Rajasthan using sustainable wool and silk, these rugs embody durability and artistry, destined to become future heirlooms. Jaipur Rugs’ ethical mission ensures fair wages, healthcare, and education for artisans, reinforcing its role as both a design leader and a social enterprise.

Jaipur Rugs’ Artistic Director Greg Foster highlights the collection’s fusion of tradition and contemporary art, while Director Yogesh Chaudhary sees it as a benchmark for global collaboration between designers and artisans.

Playing with Tradition will be showcased at Jaipur Rugs’ Milan showroom (Via Marco Minghetti) from April 7-13, 2025.
