A Little Corner Filled with Colour and Whimsy

Born in Jakarta in 1972, artist Riyani Lukita has developed a distinctly personal visual language through painting, drawing from the people, creatures, and passions that surround her.

Sometimes, inspiration comes from what is already close at hand—a favourite song, a familiar face, or an animal with plenty of character. For Riyani, these everyday encounters find their way into her work, transformed through colour, movement, and a playful sense of imagination.

This sensibility comes together in It’s a Wonderful Life: Riyani’s Corner of Her World, bringing together brightly coloured works across different mediums. Friends and family, animals, music, and dance become recurring threads, reflecting the things that spark her curiosity and affection.

There is an intimacy in the way Riyani looks at the everyday. Rather than searching far for her subjects, she finds beauty in what surrounds her, giving ordinary encounters a more imaginative life through expressive forms and vibrant colour.

Curated by Amir Sidharta and officiated by fashion designer Didi Budiardjo, the exhibition offers a closer look at Riyani’s creative universe, where colour, character, and whimsy come together with a sense of warmth and play.

On view from 28 September to 31 October 2026 at Wonder Art Gallery, It’s a Wonderful Life invites visitors into Riyani’s corner of the world, where the things we know and love take on a slightly different perspective.
