The Poetry of Transparency

Blurring the boundaries between collectible design, art, and material experimentation, Draga & Aurel unveil Stem—a sculptural series of vases shaped through the expressive possibilities of lucite, the acrylic resin central to the studio’s Transparency Matters collection. Founded in Como in 2007 by Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow, the multidisciplinary studio is known for transforming material research into objects that feel both artistic and deeply contemporary.

Rooted in experimentation, Stem transforms material exploration into refined form. Colored sheets of lucite are layered, cut, and sculpted into essential geometries, where chromatic overlaps create optical depth and shifting reflections. Fluorescent hues—ranging from acid yellow and vivid green to soft pink and orange—interact with light to create a luminous, ever-changing presence.

Taking its name from the slender structure of a flower stem, the collection reimagines a familiar organic element through an abstract, sculptural lens. Existing somewhere between object and artwork, the vases move beyond functionality, preserving the memory of a creative process while inviting new interpretations through materiality, color, and light.
