Jonathan Anderson Shapes a New Couture Language at Dior
For his second Haute Couture collection for Dior, Jonathan Anderson further defines his evolving vision for the House. Inspired by the work of American sculptor Lynda Benglis, Anderson translated the artist’s expressive manipulation of materials into couture through hand-plissé, knotting and sculptural draping. Metallic, iridescent and paper-like textiles, alongside delicate silver netting that mimics chicken wire, blurred the boundary between garment and artwork, earning widespread praise from critics for redefining couture through contemporary artistry rather than spectacle.

The collection also traced Benglis’s connection to Ahmedabad, India, celebrating its rich craft heritage through 18th-century chintz textiles, floral embellishments inspired by her Peacock series, and exceptional artisanal techniques. These influences extended to accessories, where antique Indian textile fragments adorned the Petit Dîner and Mini Lady Dior bags, while jewellery handcrafted in France and Jaipur reflected the collection’s dialogue between cultures.

Balancing the lush landscapes of Gujarat with the crystalline light of New Mexico, Anderson composed a restrained yet richly textured collection that privileged sculptural form over ornament. Dior Haute Couture Fall-Winter 2026–2027 signals a new era—where innovation, craftsmanship and contemporary art converge to redefine the possibilities of haute couture.
