Transforming Dior’s Hollywood Connection into A Contemporary Cinematic Statement

In David Geffen Galleries at LACMA in Los Angeles, Dior Cruise 2027 marked Jonathan Anderson’s first major statement for the maison — a collection suspended between Hollywood fantasy, couture heritage, and Californian modernity.

The collection explored Dior’s longstanding relationship with cinema, drawing inspiration from a Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1949 jacket famously worn by Marlene Dietrich in Alfred Hitchcock’s Stage Fright. From this cinematic starting point, Anderson reimagined Dior through the lens of Los Angeles: a city shaped by illusion, reinvention, and creative mythology.

California itself became a recurring motif throughout the collection, particularly through the Californian poppy, woven into floral embellishments, sequinned details, and romantic silhouettes. Anderson described the collection as a dreamscape of LA’s creative characters — artists, actors, musicians, and outsiders — translated into a wardrobe that felt both refined and undone.

On the runway, bouclé wool jackets with frayed cuffs, embroidered lace evening dresses, patchwork scarves, and oversized shearling coats merged couture elegance with a relaxed West Coast attitude. The menswear carried the same cinematic spirit: sequinned tailoring shimmered under the lights, while pyjama shirts paired with leather trousers evoked a nonchalant Hollywood decadence.

A series of archetypal American shirts, created in collaboration with artist Ed Ruscha, further anchored the collection in the cultural landscape of Los Angeles. Accessories reinforced Anderson’s evolving vision for Dior.

New bag silhouettes included a streamlined reinterpretation of the iconic Saddle, a bucket bag adorned with the Dior Médaillon, and crescent-based shoulder bags, while shoes bloomed with floral appliqués and sparkling sequins.

With Dior Cruise 2027 Jonathan Anderson fused archival Dior codes with youthful experimentation, transforming Dior’s Hollywood connection into a contemporary cinematic narrative.
