An experiential narrative unfolding around the No.15 Chair by Taiju Yamashita

At Milan Design Week 2026, Tokyo-based brand DAFT about DRAFT presents Last Sample, a site-specific installation that frames furniture as an extension of architectural thinking. Founded in 2022 as an offshoot of the multidisciplinary studio DRAFT, the brand channels a fluid, intuitive approach to living—where objects merge seamlessly with space and human experience.

Led by architect and designer Taiju Yamashita, the project reflects a practice rooted in spatial experimentation. For this installation, that ethos materialises through the No.15 chair, positioned not simply as a functional object but as a device for perceiving space.

Developed through an intentional shift in viewpoint—closer to the ground, almost non-human in perspective—the chair challenges conventional proportions and redefines its relationship with the surrounding environment. In doing so, it becomes a subtle architectural instrument, translating spatial inquiry into a tangible form.

Last Sample unfolds as an experiential narrative. Visitors move through a sequence that reveals the evolution of design—iterations, refinements, and decisions—culminating in the “last sample,” the final prototype before production. This moment is treated not as an endpoint, but as a threshold where form, structure, and function reach equilibrium.

The exhibition invites visitors to engage with design at its most transitional stage—where ideas resolve just before entering everyday life.
