Borbonese opens the doors to its “Reading Club” inviting its community of like-minded connoisseurs to share beliefs, values, ideas and the same inclination for soft-spoken refinement at breakfast time.

Milan’s Circolo Filologico becomes the geek chic background for Dorian Tarantini and Matteo Mena’s creations for Borbonese, scattered on reading tables inside the library space as if they were books filled with extraordinarily thrilling tales.

Piano music spreads through the imposing staircase and balconies to the palazzo’s liberty halls; branded notebooks to pencil dreams and thoughts as well as poetry books sit on reading tables. Breakfast is served.

Borbonese’s club is a morning affaire, conveying a refined and culturally cool attitude integral to the fall-winter 2024 collection, which nods to the great female poets of the 20th century and to Italian female architects and designers such as Alda Merini and Patrizia Cavalli, Gae Aulenti, Cini Boeri, Nanda Vigo, Lina Bo Bardi and Rossana Orlandi who have charted a radical and gently sharp vision of relationships, objects, buildings, the urban landscape and lifestyle.

In a cool encounter of perspectives Borbonese’s storied craftsmanship and rich archives serve as the template for the collection’s nine-to-five, nonchalant undercurrent, which resonates with the intellectual bent of today’s youth lingering in reading classics as selfcare amid a hectic life.

The day kicks off with the “Croissant” and “Bond” shoulder bags in OP-printed recycled fabric with a leather strap, the former featuring a pleated body reminiscent of breakfast pastry. The new “Marìe” trapezoidal minimalist and sleek style crafted from supple buffalo leather with a grainy surface accompanies its wearer on a morning stroll downtown.

A young spin echoes in the “Sexy” style, a re-edition of an archival piece from 1972 with a bowling bag shape, updated for fall-winter with matte golden hardware and offered in a broad range of color and material options, from cherry red and Edera green leather to natural, vinaceous red or cloud gray OP suede. Its sleek and alluring vibe turns it into the perfect nemesis to the “Couch” shoulder and pouch bag crafted from nappa leather worked into a gentle and rounded shape. It bears a new take on the Borbonese logo, spelled out on a golden plastron, which also appears on the shoulder strap of the “Nueve” satchel design done in printed leather sourced from LWG-certified tanneries, like all leather in the collection.

The acronym for Leather Working Group, it is the first global environmental certification for leather tanneries. The use of conscious materials throughout the collection is part of Borbonese’s ongoing commitment to a more responsible business model.

The iconic OP pattern is reinterpreted in a captivating new version of the best selling “Oyster” hobo bag presented in the OP Soft scratched coated canvas available in the black and porridge colorways.

In the afterhours, the “5 PM” shoulder bag in LWG-certified OP suede or calfskin and in a recycled duchesse version is the perfect ladylike companion at tea-time with its sophisticated metal chain and clasp drawn from the archives.

The reading gift offered to “Reading Club” members is poetry from the Einaudi collection. Introduced in 1964, the series publishes classics, as well as contemporary and modern poems from across literatures providing the original text in addition to the translation. Designed by Bruno Munari, it is widely known as “the white series” in nods to the signature color of the cover, which has remained unchanged over the years.
