Malaysia To Indonesia, Modest Luxury
The global modest fashion landscape marks a defining moment as Bawal Exclusive debuts its first flagship boutique in Indonesia. Located in the ever-bustling Pasar Mayestik, South Jakarta, the space introduces a refined layer to the city’s evolving modest wear scene—signaling a seamless transition of luxury from Malaysia into Indonesia.

“We view Indonesia, particularly Jakarta, as a city with advanced modest wear; therefore, we hope this opening can set a new standard for modern modest wear,” shared Haliza Maysuri, founder of the Bawal Exclusive.

Founded in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 by Haliza Maysuri and Mohd Rosli Awang, the brand—introduced to Jakarta earlier this April—has become synonymous with craftsmanship. Its signature lies in Japanese cotton voile hijabs, each finished with hand-applied Swarovski crystals, elevating an everyday essential into a statement of modest luxury.

More than a retail destination, the boutique is conceived as Bawal Exclusive’s Indonesian headquarters, underscoring a long-term vision for growth. Led by Yose Desman, the presence reflects a commitment not only to expansion, but also to nurturing the local fashion ecosystem.

“We believe in the capabilities of local talent; this presence is not only about fashion, but also about creating opportunities and supporting the industry,” Yose noted.

In line with this vision, all products available in Indonesia are crafted locally—from design and tailoring to intricate crystal embellishments—allowing for designs tailored specifically to the Indonesian market.

The opening evening carried an international tone, attended by Alexander Eherer alongside the founders and leadership team, with a special performance by Cakra Khan adding a celebratory touch.

Renowned for holding a record in the Malaysia Book of Records for creating one of the world’s most expensive hijabs, the brand continues to push the boundaries of modest wear through hand-cutting, hand-sewing, and hand-embellishing techniques that transform each piece into collectible artistry.
With collections ranging from accessible premium to ultra-limited editions, the Jakarta boutique also introduces Swarovski crystal components for local designers—opening new avenues for creative exploration within Indonesia’s fashion landscape.
As Jakarta continues to evolve as a fashion capital, the arrival of Bawal Exclusive reflects a more elevated, globally attuned expression of modest style—where craftsmanship, culture, and contemporary luxury meet in quiet harmony.
