ARTJOG 2026 OPENS A NEW ERA WITH ARS LONGA: GENERATIO

Featuring Roby Dwi Antono as This Year’s Commissioned Artist

Opening on 19 June 2026 at the Jogja National Museum, ARTJOG 2026 marks the beginning of a significant new curatorial chapter with Ars Longa: Generatio, the inaugural edition of the three-year Ars Longa trilogy curated by Farah Wardani. Following the conclusion of the acclaimed Motif trilogy (2023–2025), the exhibition shifts its focus toward the enduring role of art as a vessel of knowledge, memory, and cultural continuity.

Drawing inspiration from the classical aphorism ars longa, vita brevis—“art is long, life is short”—the exhibition explores how artistic ideas transcend individual lifetimes and continue to resonate across generations. Through the theme Generatio, ARTJOG 2026 examines the transmission of values, experiences, and creative practices between different generations of artists and audiences.

Reinforcing this curatorial premise, the exhibition brings together works by 25 invited artists and collectives alongside 19 emerging artists aged 35 and under selected through an open call. Extending the dialogue even further, ARTJOG Kids will showcase works by 52 children and young participants aged between 6 and 15, highlighting the festival’s commitment to nurturing artistic expression across generations and positioning creativity as a continuum rather than a singular moment in time.

One of the most anticipated highlights of this year’s edition is the commissioned project by Indonesian contemporary artist Roby Dwi Antono. Conceived as a large-scale intervention spanning multiple areas of the venue, the work continues ARTJOG’s tradition of presenting ambitious site-specific commissions that engage visitors beyond the conventional exhibition format.

Beyond the exhibition galleries, ARTJOG 2026 continues its multidisciplinary approach through a range of public programs, including performa•ARTJOG, Meet the Artist, Exhibition Tour, Young Artist Award, ARTJOG Kids, The Others Lab, and LoveARTJOG, the festival’s long-running accessibility initiative. ARTJOG continues its position as one of Southeast Asia’s most influential contemporary art festivals and a vital platform for artistic exchange.

Running until 30 August 2026, Ars Longa: Generatio sets the tone for a new curatorial journey, inviting audiences to reflect on the ways art persists, evolves, and connects generations in an increasingly complex world.

Dibuka pada 19 Juni 2026 di Jogja National Museum, ARTJOG 2026 menandai dimulainya trilogi kuratorial baru bertajuk Ars Longa. Mengusung tema Generatio, edisi tahun ini mengajak publik merefleksikan bagaimana gagasan, nilai, dan praktik artistik diwariskan, berkembang, serta terus menemukan relevansinya lintas generasi.

Untuk mengartikulasikan gagasan tersebut, ARTJOG 2026 menghadirkan karya dari 25 seniman dan kolektif undangan yang berdialog dengan 19 seniman muda berusia maksimal 35 tahun yang terpilih melalui proses seleksi terbuka. Pertemuan berbagai perspektif ini menjadi ruang untuk menelusuri hubungan antara pengalaman, pengetahuan, dan imajinasi yang terus bergerak dari satu generasi ke generasi berikutnya.

Semangat regenerasi yang menjadi inti tema pameran juga tercermin melalui program ARTJOG Kids, yang tahun ini menampilkan karya dari 52 anak dan remaja berusia 6 hingga 15 tahun hasil seleksi. Kehadiran para peserta termuda tersebut memperluas cakupan dialog antargenerasi sekaligus menegaskan komitmen ARTJOG dalam merawat ekosistem seni yang inklusif dan berkelanjutan.

Salah satu sorotan utama tahun ini adalah proyek komisi dari Roby Dwi Antono yang akan hadir sebagai intervensi artistik berskala besar di berbagai area venue. Karya tersebut melanjutkan tradisi ARTJOG dalam menghadirkan proyek-proyek site-specific yang menawarkan pengalaman ruang yang imersif bagi para pengunjung.

Disamping pameran utamanya, ARTJOG 2026 menghadirkan rangkaian program publik yang memperluas pengalaman pengunjung, mulai dari performa•ARTJOG, Meet the Artist, dan Exhibition Tour hingga Young Artist Award, ARTJOG Kids, The Others Lab, serta LoveARTJOG.  Dengan program-program bermanfaat tersebut, ARTJOG terus mengukuhkan dirinya sebagai salah satu festival seni kontemporer terdepan di Asia Tenggara serta wadah strategis bagi dialog dan pertukaran artistik lintas komunitas, disiplin, dan generasi.
