Laufen’s Eclectic Soul
At the Milan Design Week 2023, LAUFEN’s new space collection unveils the first results of a research work deriving from continuous experimentation with materials and new lifestyles. From the collaboration with the NM3 design studio, to the bold aesthetics of the Swiss artist Monique Baumann, up to the decorative touch of Marcel Wanders, the space collection brings together very different artistic languages that make it possible to outline new scenarios not only for the bathroom.

The new space collection brings together a variety of languages and styles that is unique in the bathroom scene. Through the collaborations with designers, architects and artists, LAUFEN has given life to a series of solutions so varied and heterogeneous that they require a container, a space in fact, in which to bring together the most interesting expressions of current living which are not necessarily limited to the world of the bathroom. By offering a broader vision of living, space collection satisfies the needs of an increasingly attentive and refined public and the requests of architects and designers who are continually looking for tailor-made solutions with a high aesthetic and qualitative content. space collection will be available on request through the LAUFEN spaces in Berlin, Vienna, Madrid, Prague, Miami, Laufen and Milan and in selected retailers.
The new space collection is the expression of the eclectic soul of the Swiss brand: it is made up of projects born from the most extraordinary collaborations that the company has set up in recent years with architects, designers and artists.

At the Milan Design Week 2023, LAUFEN presents the first results of these important collaborations with the new capsule collection of NM3, the Milan design studio made up of Francesco Zorzi, Nicolò Ornaghi, and Delfino Sisto Legnani, and the artistic interpretation on ceramic by the Swiss artist Monique Baumann and Marcel Wanders.
NM3 and Monique Bauman
Two decidedly different disciplines characterize the production of the NM3 design studio and the Swiss artist Monique Baumann, with which LAUFEN wanted to create two individual approaches to the bathroom with a disruptive visual language.
NM3 design studio
The capsule collection created in collaboration with NM3 is characterized by the use of stainless steel, worked through standard metal carpentry processes and offers furniture solutions, small furnishings and a series of accessories with rigorous lines and high quality.
NM3 design studio
The combination with the LAUFEN ceramic elements offers an unprecedented scenario for the bathroom environment where the objects take on a sculptural and almost abstract presence. It is a very fluid and flexible collection that can be combined with various other LAUFEN fixtures and accessories to fit into any other room of the house.

Diametrically opposite is the work carried out by Swiss artist Monique Baumann who loves to experiment with colour, different materials and images to give life to abstract worlds which are the result of a totally analogical, free and intuitive approach.

For the space collection, LAUFEN asked Monique Baumann to re-interpret some pieces of the iconic Kartell • LAUFEN collection: the freestanding washbasin, the round counter-top washbasin in Saphirkeramik, and the wall-hung WC. Using three different techniques – charcoal, collage and painting – and being able to count on the maximum compositional freedom, as well as on LAUFEN’s great mastery in working with ceramics, Monique Baumann has created three original artworks with a strong presence which will bring a renewed energy into the bathroom.

Alongside the artistic edition for the Kartell • LAUFEN ceramics, LAUFEN presents the new ADA faucets. Monique Baumann has created three different small work of arts for the storage trays of the washbasin mixers and the column single lever bath mixer inspired by water, stone, wood but also by the sensations that the bathroom offers us.

Three new Reliefs created by Marcel Wanders
The washbasins of The New Classic Collection, characterized by soft and sinuous lines and made in Saphirkeramik, are embellished thanks to three new patterns created by Marcel Wanders. The new Reliefs, Bohemian, Ornamental and Cosmopolitan are a further step forward in the individualization of the ultra-thin and resistant ceramic material developed by LAUFEN.

Space means also Bespoke
LAUFEN offers manufacturing experience in the development of design solutions that cater to the specific needs of architects and planners in order to ensure maximum individuality. For over 130 years with a result that meets technical expectations and creative vision in general.
Space collection – Bespoke
In recent years LAUFEN has collaborated with the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron for the construction of the bathrooms in one of the symbolic skyscrapers of New York, the 56 Leonard. The design of the washbasins and that of the bathtub had to recall the rounded shape of a pill, a design that is also found in other elements of the same architecture. To offer the maximum degree of customization and a refined and elegant aesthetic, the washbasins and bathtub are made in Sentec, the mineral composite material developed by LAUFEN with a smooth and velvety surface that allows for continuous lines without joints and even very complex shapes.
Space collection – Bespoke
The washbasins and bathtub with rounded lines and an ultra-contemporary design, created exclusively for the 56 Leonard residential skyscraper in New York by Herzog & de Meuron are now part of the space collection.
Go with the colours!
The space collection offers designers an additional customization tool in the bathroom. The continuous research on materials and on the latest trends has allowed LAUFEN to expand the colour range for ceramics by adding a new set of nuances that includes more delicate shades such as light pink, grey beige and light mint green up to more energetic colours that include evergreen and light blue. They are all available in both glossy and matte versions.

The new colour collection also includes the very elegant café, with a matte finish only and the aubergine colour, a glossy cardinal red with a strong character. The new variants can be perfectly combined with the other colour versions already present in the collection which include the most classic colours, from white to black in glossy or matt finish as well as grey and graphite in the matte version.
