Letting the Day Unfold by the Sea 

Ready to take a break and let Bali set the pace? At Alunê, W Bali – Seminyak’s beachfront destination, the day moves effortlessly from laid-back afternoons to golden-hour drinks, good food, and music by the sea. Taking over the familiar footprint of Woobar, Alunê brings a different character to one of Seminyak’s most recognisable addresses.

The name offers a little clue to its character. Alunê draws from the Indonesian word alunan, referring to the continuous rhythm of ocean waves and the cadence of sound and melody, paired with lune, the French word for moon. Together, the two speak to a place shaped by the sea, changing light, and the energy around it.

Designed by WELD, Alunê takes a relaxed, tactile approach to the interior, layering natural materials, sculptural forms, and warm sunset tones to echo the beach setting. Seminyak’s south-west orientation means the sun sets directly over the Indian Ocean, making the changing light an essential part of the setting.

That connection comes through in the details. The bar glows with hand-cut mosaic tiles and orange-tinted glass, softly backlit in amber and gold. A hand-carved and hand-painted timber counter moves between deep ocean blue and burnt orange, complemented by Rosso Alicante marble, green quartzite, and grey teakwood. Even the custom barstools take on a fluid, wave-like form.

Afternoons are easy and unhurried, with time for a long lunch or something cold by the water. As the light softens, cocktails and live sound gradually bring more energy into the space. There is no hard divide between daytime dining and evening entertainment; one simply gives way to the other.

Crafted by Chef Jules Winckler, the coastal menu focuses on fresh local ingredients and bold flavours, moving beyond the usual beach-club fare with a more chef-driven approach. The Lobster Roll combines lobster, spring onion, and ikura, while the Catch of the Day Sashimi keeps things bright with ponzu, chilli oil, and lime.

For slower afternoons, the Signature Frozen Bowls offer a lighter pause. Blue Tide brings together blue spirulina, coconut, and lime, while Golden Hour takes a more tropical route with mango, pineapple, ginger, and turmeric. They fit naturally into those in-between hours when lunch is over, sunset is still ahead, and there is no real reason to leave just yet.

Alunê’s Sunset Ritual marks golden hour with twilight cocktails and live sound, timed around the sunset. On the drinks menu, the signature Ivory Tide sits alongside Solaris Spritz and Soft Current, while six wellness mocktails—Calm, Balance, Vitality, Ease, Immunity, and Glow—offer lighter alternatives.

Music continues to shape the atmosphere, from daytime poolside grooves to sunset rituals, live performances, and late-night beats. It sits naturally within the setting, giving the space a different energy as evening settles in.

There is still room to slow things down. Guests can settle into a beachfront daybed, stay close to the social energy, or retreat to an oceanfront cabana. The private pool cabanas, each with its own jacuzzi and unobstructed views of the Indian Ocean, offer a quieter way to take in the same setting.

For W Bali – Seminyak General Manager Laurens Kritzinger, this balance is central to the idea, “We’ve created more than a beach club—we’ve created a destination inspired by Bali’s natural rhythm, where exceptional dining, immersive entertainment, thoughtful design, and meaningful connections come together.”

That idea extends beyond the beachfront. Launched alongside Alunê, Club Lacoste introduces a more active side to W Bali – Seminyak, bringing sport, wellness, and social connection into the mix. The collaboration marks Lacoste’s longest-running Club Lacoste partnership in Asia Pacific, with two padel courts and an official Lacoste boutique at the resort.

The two concepts remain distinct, but they sit comfortably within the same destination. An afternoon game of padel can lead into lunch by the sea, cocktails at sunset, or an evening accompanied by music. Lacoste’s latest padel collection, including its first dedicated padel capsule with rackets and footwear, adds another layer to the resort’s lifestyle offering.

For a beach-club scene as established as Seminyak’s, Alunê feels less concerned with being the loudest place on the shore than with creating a setting that changes with the day. It is relaxed in the afternoon, more atmospheric as the sun goes down, and increasingly social as evening settles in.

In that sense, Alunê is not simply a replacement for an old favourite. It is a rethinking of the Woobar footprint, shaped around the way people might want to spend time by the sea today—with good food, thoughtful design, music, and the changing light of Bali woven naturally into the setting.

Sometimes, a Bali break does not need much of a plan. Perhaps that is the charm of Alunê. Nothing feels too prescriptive. You can arrive for lunch and stay for sunset, come for the music, linger over a drink, or simply find a quiet corner facing the ocean. The setting leaves enough room for the day to become whatever you want it to be.
