Material Into Story

Some materials carry memory. For Riva1920, wood has long been more than a foundation for furniture — it is a language of craftsmanship, permanence, and quiet beauty. After more than a century of shaping solid wood into objects designed to endure, the Italian furniture house revisits this legacy through 100+6: From Nature to Home, an immersive presentation that transforms material into narrative and furniture into storytelling.

PIANO

Unveiled during Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, the project marks Riva1920’s 106th anniversary through an immersive exhibition built around six symbolic woods — Kauri, Briccole, Cedar, Barrique, Oak, and Walnut — each chosen for its distinct history, texture, and emotional resonance. Together, they form the heart of 100+6, where limited-edition reinterpretations of iconic pieces sit alongside one hundred furnishings that trace the evolution of the Riva1920 universe through its newest 2026 collection. Moving through the exhibition feels less like walking through a showroom and more like entering a quiet conversation between craftsmanship, material, and time.

VELA SIDEBOARD

On the ground floor, the installation adopts an almost museum-like sensibility. Under restrained lighting and carefully composed interiors, the natural beauty of wood is allowed to speak for itself. Familiar pieces are revisited through new material dialogues: the KAURI PIANO ANTICO table by Renzo & Matteo Piano appears with a leather-clad base, while the VENICE console by Claudio Bellini turns reclaimed Venetian Briccole wood into a sculptural statement. Elsewhere, Mario Botta’s BOTTEA bench is softened through a leather cushion, and Terry Dwan’s iconic BEDROCK table returns with satin steel detailing and a champagne-toned finish that subtly elevates its monumental character.

NOCE

Outside, the mood shifts toward something more playful. The iconic MOLLETTA bench welcomes visitors alongside FOOTBALL, a sculptural cedar armchair by Guto Biazzetto inspired by the softened form of a deflated football. Nearby, RIFLESSI MILLENARI stands as a striking centerpiece — a five-metre slab of ancient Kauri wood balanced atop polished steel and completed with a suspended Murano glass heart. Upstairs, the 2026 collection unfolds through refined living environments, from the sculptural SUISEKI collection and softly contoured PAPILIO table to the monolithic LINEA 45 kitchen, where steel and solid wood meet in understated harmony.

VENICE

The narrative continues through spaces designed around everyday rituals. Pieces such as the ECLISSE vanity desk, the airy PARENTESI bookcase, and the PLEIADI armchair reveal Riva1920’s ongoing dialogue between craftsmanship and functionality, while CRU, a new wine cabinet, quietly reflects the brand’s appreciation for collecting and convivial living.

BOTTEA

More than an anniversary presentation, 100+6: From Nature to Home feels like a reflection on permanence. In a world shaped by speed and constant change, Riva1920 offers something quieter and more enduring — a reminder that material, when shaped with care, can carry memory across generations.
