A Dynamic Three-Dimensional Decorative Panel

Inspired by the geothermal phenomena of Pantelleria, the Favare decorative panel by Elena Salmistraro for Lithea translates the island’s volcanic breath into a sculptural surface.

Pantelleria—situated between Sicily and Tunisia—is known for its favare, jets of hot steam that rise from fractures in the earth’s crust, generated by magma beneath the island. These ethereal vapors, emerging unpredictably from the ground, create an atmospheric landscape that feels almost otherworldly.

Presented by Interni Cipta Selaras

Salmistraro reinterprets this natural phenomenon through a dynamic three-dimensional composition. Overlapping lines and reliefs evoke the gentle yet powerful movement of steam rising in sinuous flows, while the interplay of light and shadow animates the surface with a sense of quiet motion.

Crafted from Bardiglio Imperiale marble with Bianco Fenice inlays and finished with hand-applied copper leaf inserts, the 60 × 120 × 4 cm panel balances material richness with sculptural depth—transforming a volcanic spectacle into a refined architectural statement.
