Optical sense of fluidity embodied in the GUSTO Glass Bowl Collection

Launching at Maison & Objet Paris this January, GUSTO Glass Bowl Collection by Alain Gilles The Studio for Belgian design brand XL BOOM elevates a familiar object through a poetic and highly refined design concept. Inspired by a visual metaphor, the collection evokes a glass bowl seemingly resting on a slowly melting block of ice, creating an illusion of movement and impermanence, as if the object itself were gently transforming.

This effect is achieved through a deliberate contrast of forms and textures. The bowl’s crisp, mouth-blown glass container is paired with an organic, irregular base whose appearance shifts with every angle. Formed from molten glass and manually shaped directly onto the container, the base and bowl become a single, unified piece.

Further collaboration with master glassblowers led to versions featuring colored glass inserts within the base. These pigments appear to diffuse softly through the transparent glass, creating nuanced, ever-changing visual effects that reinforce the sense of fluidity. Gusto’s true value lies in its celebration of craftsmanship and material expression.

Functional yet sculptural, GUSTO moves effortlessly between utility and expression, serving a variety of foods while revealing its distinctive, quietly captivating beauty.
