First publication on January 05, 2026
This January, Alexander Lamont returns to Paris with The Modern Scholar, a contemplative new collection presented within the refined setting of a newly restored gallery at 35 rue Guénégaud. From 14 to 17 January 2026, the British designer invites the design world into an intimate exploration of materials, memory, and the quiet rituals of thought.

Rooted in the philosophical traditions of Ming and Edo-era studios, The Modern Scholar reflects a time when craftsmanship served as a companion to contemplation. Lamont revisits this lineage through pieces that echo the natural world—lacquer that fractures light into fine tessellations, parchment shaped into soft planes, shagreen with its aquatic stillness, and bronze cast with the texture of bark and branch. Surfaces invite touch; forms unfold with the unhurried cadence of a turning page. Each work is conceived as an object that lives with its owner, evolving through use and becoming part of a space shaped with intention.

Presented by Magran Living

To accompany the presentation, the gallery will host a serene tea-tasting on Wednesday, 14 January from 3 to 6pm, created in collaboration with Taiwanese tea specialist Wistaria. Guests are welcomed into an afternoon that mirrors the spirit of the collection—quiet, sensory, and steeped in cultural appreciation.

At Paris Deco Home, Lamont showcases a study in material, ritual, and the ongoing dialogue between hand, surface, and thought.
