The Bistra Chair –  A Poetic Dialogue Between Rattan, Form, And Tradition GUBI presents the Bistra Collection, a refined reinvention of the classic bistro chair by Milan-based studio AMDL CIRCLE, led by renowned architect Michele De Lucchi. With architectural sensitivity and organic inspiration, the collection distills the iconic silhouette to its most essential form, blending tradition with contemporary restraint.

Comprising a dining armchair, lounge chair, and three-legged stool, Bistra is GUBI’s most sculptural exploration of rattan to date. Steam-bent and hand-woven, each piece is composed of three primary elements — backrest, armrests, and a double-fork base — that branch out like saplings from a single point. The result is a structure that appears to grow naturally from the ground, echoing botanical rhythms.

In the spirit of “elegance through subtraction,” AMDL CIRCLE eliminates excess to reveal the core essence of the chair, subverting conventional construction with minimal yet expressive forms. Rattan bindings wrap the backrest in a quiet nod to the fin-de-siècle Parisian archetype, while a custom-designed textile — Reales Pattern — furthers the connection to nature with its hand-drawn foliage-inspired motif.

Available in three nuanced colorways, the fabric enriches the tactile and visual unity between seat and structure. Handcrafted in Italy with all-natural Indonesian rattan, the Bistra Collection is as sustainable as it is stylish. Lightweight yet resilient, its poetic geometry brings both strength and softness to interiors, transitioning effortlessly between formal refinement and casual warmth.

GUBI and AMDL CIRCLE honour heritage while charting a new course for rattan with Bistra.
