Monk Chair and Armchair, Orizzonti and Roads Rugs
At Milan Design Week 2025, Molteni&C unveiled its 2025 Collection—a refined tribute to the architectural and cultural heritage of Milan. Curated by Vincent Van Duysen, the collection reimagines archival designs from the 1970s and ’80s with contemporary clarity and restraint. Its debut was marked by the opening of Palazzo Molteni on Via Manzoni 9, Milan (read here) , a new seven-story flagship that blends exhibition space with cultural narrative. Complementing the launch, the “Letters to Milan” installation at Museo Poldi Pezzoli, conceived by Studio Klass, offered an immersive experience reflecting the city’s layered identity through architecture, art, and design. The unveiling of Molteni&C’s 2025 Collection also marked the introduction of new designs by Vincent Van Duysen, Creative Director of Molteni&C: Aria (writing desk), Linea (armchair),
Highlights of collection include a prestigious collaboration with Christophe Delcourt, GamFratesi, Yabu Pushelberg, Tobi Scarpa and Marta Ferri.
The collection by Tobia Scarpa: A Reissue of Quiet Craftsmanship
Monk Chair and Armchair
Designed in 1973 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, the Monk chair embodies a philosophy of subtle elegance and technical precision. Scarpa’s approach—where “technique is never an act of imposition”—guides Monk’s construction: a seamless meeting of expressive materials and honest craftsmanship.
In 2025, Molteni&C brings back this iconic piece as part of its Heritage Collection, preserving the original’s quiet strength while offering an inviting armchair version. With its monastic silhouette and refined simplicity, Monk stands as a timeless tribute to the art of understated luxury.
“We imagined it as a single piece because it was cheaper. But Angelo Molteni changed the design. ‘No, no,’ he said, ‘we do things properly.’ So, we came up with an iron structure stretched between two identical frames, which made the seat what it is.” – Tobia Scarpa (translated from Italian)
Monk’s solid wood frame, available in American walnut, black oak, or coffee oak, is structured from two identical trestles, joined by exposed screws and burnished steel hubs. A single piece of metal tubing supports the seat and backrest, crafted from two shaped leather sections that promise enveloping comfort.
The collection by Marta Ferri: Rugs of Depth and Warmth
The new designs, Orizzonti and Roads, each possess a distinct character yet share an inviting warmth and refined elegance. Their versatility allows them to complement both contemporary and classic interiors, adapting seamlessly as spaces—and styles—transform over time.
Presented by Molteni&C
“My aim is to create objects that don’t age, but instead gain character, becoming an enduring part of the home,” Ferri explains. With this latest collection, she reaffirms her dedication to crafting pieces that transcend trends, offering a quiet luxury and an enduring sense of place.
Orizzonti Rug: A Landscape in Tufted Wool
Orizzonti is a tufted wool rug defined by a weave of varying lengths, evoking the gentle succession of landscapes that stretch to the horizon. Devoid of fringe, its soft, tactile surface and unique design lend a refined touch to any interior, quietly enriching the space it inhabits.

Roads Rug: Knotted Rugs
The Roads rug is flatweave design with a checker pattern in green, ivory, black, and blue. Contrasting stripes break up the geometric grid, like roads traversing a landscape, adding a dynamic element to any interior.
