Luminous Satellites in a Dialogue with Space

“In 2023, at the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection in Paris, we stumbled upon the universe of Mike Kelley. His work on Kandor — a resin city hanging amid memory and fiction — left a permanent mark,” say Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow. “His floating architecture, immersed in an atmosphere suspended between dreams and reality, deeply resonated with our course of research, pushing us to explore new forms and expressive languages. The Phebe lamps are not simply light sources but vibrant entities that transform and interact with the space.”

The Phebe lamps, named after the Greek word “bright and luminous” are handcrafted in Como by Draga & Aurel. They feature two disks with adjustable tilts, one made from Lucite and the other from epoxy resin. The lamps’ aesthetic is inspired by the Space Age, a period of boldness and futuristic vision. The upper disk is thin and bright, while the lower disk is made from various castings in different colors. The lamps create a playful glow and surprising transparency, evoking an ethereal and magnetic presence.

Phebe, a lamp that transcends simple functionality, embodies a journey through light and time, redefining the boundaries between art and design. Meanwhile, Matter dissipates into the atmosphere, color becomes vibration.
