Apartamento and BD Barcelona Join Forces for a Playful Exploration of Everyday Objects!
Apartamento, the cult interior magazine and publishing house, and BD Barcelona, a renowned furniture design company with over 50 years of history, have joined forces for the first time to create a distinctive collection of everyday objects. This collaboration marks BD Barcelona’s inaugural collection aimed at a younger audience, offering an affordable range of thoughtfully crafted (un)common objects.
Combining Apartamento’s creative vision with BD Barcelona’s long-standing nonconformist spirit, this series presents a fresh take on everyday items, reimagining their form, color, and functionality.
This collection celebrates creative freedom and experimentation, designed by four artists who are all friends of Apartamento and BD: French designer Ronan Bouroullec, featured in Apartamnto’s upcoming issue and collaborator on BD’s BATON collection; Romanian artist Serban Ionescu, with whom Apartamento published two books and a limited edition of his miniature sculptures; Spanish ceramicist and designer Xavier Mañosa; and Swedish artist Klas Ernflo. Together, this group captures the vision that has fueled BD Barcelona from the start. BD seeks to expand the dialogue surrounding design and explore new realms of creativity, both in this collection and beyond.
Each piece in the collection balances artistic expression with practical utility, challenging the conventional perception of everyday objects and breathing new life into them. The series stands as an inviting introduction to Apartamento’s evolving design philosophy, while also aligning with BD Barcelona’s ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of design innovation.
The collection will be available for pre-sale starting on November 4, 2024, through Apartamento and BD Barcelona’s retail networks, with the official launch on November 11, 2024. To celebrate this collaboration, a series of exclusive launch events will take place across several cities in Europe, offering an opportunity to explore these innovative creations and celebrate the partnership behind them.
KLAS ERNFLO – Wine Stoppers ‘Buddy’
The Wine Bottle ‘Buddy’ is a series of bottle-stopper heads carved out of beech wood. Wonderfully practical and good-natured, these bottle stoppers challenge their simplicity, offering a witty blend of artistry and charm. Meant to be bought together or separately, for your own home or as the perfect gift for your wine-loving friend, they transform your space with a synthesis of imagination and charismatic utility.
Klas Ernflo is a Swedish artist known for his multidisciplinary approach to form and material, blending graphic design, illustration, and fine art. Spanning a range of mediums, his work harnesses a playful abstractness and a continuous allusion to nature, combining minimalism with whimsical details to put a unique perspective on everyday objects.

SERBAN IONESCU – Mutant Hooks
The Mutant Hook is a mischievous twist on the ordinariness and functionality of a conventional hook. Made from bent metal sheets, they are designed to evoke mutating shapes that are as unusual as they are gentle. By reinventing this unassuming object, The Mutant Hook blurs the lines between utility and abstraction, animating your space with a sculpture perfect for hanging anything, from your towels to your tote bags to your shape-shifting dreams.
Serban Ionescu is a Romanian artist known for using bold colours and shifting organic forms to transform functional everyday objects into expressive artworks. His work spans sculpture, painting, design, and architecture, weaving each practice into the other to challenge perceptions of space and utility.
XAVIER MAÑOSA – Ceramic Bookstand
The Ceramic Bookstand is a functional sculpture made to belong in every room in the house. Made first with a clay stamp and then finished with unique glazing, the Ceramic Bookstand is transformed into a sculpture through its functional purpose of displaying a book. Striking a balance between its simple artistry and arresting presence in a room, it effortlessly attunes to the space it’s in.
Xavier Mañosa is a Spanish ceramist and designer known for his innovative approach to merging modern industrial techniques with ancient artisanal traditions. His work reinterprets everyday objects through a contemporary and intriguing lens, finding inspiration in the creative process itself. Mañosa strives to find a balance between material, process, and function in each piece he creates.
RONAN BOUROULLEC – Necklace Trivet
The Necklace Trivet is a jewel-like object made to embellish your table while protecting it. Made of solid cast iron and enameled in glossy aubergine colour, its ornate finish elegantly mirrors a solid necklace made of giant black pearls, carefully and beautifully proportioned to belong on a table without disturbing its clarity.
Ronan Bouroullec is a French designer and artist, internationally known for his thoughtful and poetic approach to design, merging form and function in ways that are at once aesthetically beautiful and deeply practical. Bouroullec combines inspiration drawn from nature with his creative instinct and close relationship with materials and craftsmanship.
