Sharp edges, Unique textures, and Technical Sports Details

For Fall/Winter 2024, we continued to explore volume and silhouette in new ways: with sharp edges, unusual textures, and technical sports details. Architectural shapes are engineered from the inside out, an approach used in handbag construction. Seams are raw-cut, heat-sealed, and bonded to add dimension without weight. Squared-off skirts and precise blazers contrast with hyper-feminine dresses. Materials alternate between refined and undone: glossy faux croc and calf hair next to paper leather, frayed wool, and unraveling ruffles. Our signature accessories evolve with the Pierced pump, a 3D-printed minaudière, and a new shopper tote. We were thinking about making the everyday sublime: an old jacket, a lampshade, even a shower cap.” Tory Burch

SILHOUETTES: Angular dresses and skirts mirror the geometry of a lampshade, our new take on soft volume. The familiar pieces we wear daily — jackets, trousers, slips, hoodies, trench coats — are reinterpreted through fabric, proportion, and technique. Our interest in sensuality continues with transparent skirts dusted with hand-painted sequins and jersey mesh dresses piled with asymmetrical ruffles.

CONSTRUCTION: We looked at ready-to-wear through the lens of designing handbags, and molding fabric into shapes around the body. Seams are bonded, a technique more typical of performance gear, to hold sharp angles while preserving lightness. Free of complex interior construction or padding, dresses and skirts are surprisingly light and can nearly fold flat.

FABRICATIONS: Vast material exploration led us to a mix of unusual textures: paper leather, faux croc, raw denim, calf hair, crushed nylon, sturdy cotton, tinsel raffia, and sheer jersey mesh. Fabrics are creased and frayed or manipulated through intriguing techniques. The naïve lace trim of a slip is debossed in paper leather, and flowery nylon — a nod to shower caps — is smocked and twisted to highlight curves.

HANDBAGS & SHOES: The ergonomic Fleming minaudière from Spring/Summer 2024 returns in a new 3D-printed faux acetate, molded to rest on the hip or carried in buckled leather cages. Our signature Lee Radziwill collection expands with a shopper tote and messenger in a range of colors and finishes, from cyan leather to distressed patent and sublime tonal jacquard.

A new Pierced pump is molded with organic curves and a larger silver “toe ring.” The season’s hero flat is an irreverent take on a men’s monk strap, with cut-out uppers and narrow buckles.

JEWELRY & ACCESSORIES: Domed resin earrings are styled back-to-front, while trompe l’oeil spikes pierce straight through the lobe. Clusters of glass fruit nod to the concept of making the everyday sublime — even a trip to the grocery store. Shield sunglasses wrap around the face, and several looks are finished with sublime tights in ivory, black, and taupe.

THE SHOW: A special thank you to our venue, the New York Public Library, an iconic landmark and a regular destination for our design and creative research. Wladimir Schall produced the music, which included “Toccata And Fugue In D Minor, BWV 565” by Johann Sebastian Bach, interpreted by L. Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra; “A Forest” by The Cure; and “Isolation” and “Disorder” by Joy Division.
