Over 100 designers, Collaborative Installations, and a Retrospective Marking a Decade of Creativity

Returning to the historic Palazzo Giureconsulti, Masterly – The Dutch in Milano celebrates its 10th edition as part of Milano Design Week 2026. Founded and curated by Nicole Uniquole, the exhibition has become a familiar stop for those looking to discover the evolving landscape of Dutch design.

This year, more than 100 designers, brands, artisans, and educational institutions take over the palazzo’s four floors and 25 rooms, transforming the historic interiors into a lively showcase of ideas, materials, and craftsmanship. Alongside individual presentations, the edition also highlights collective installations, where designers and companies collaborate to present projects that move beyond traditional product display.

Among the highlights is the modular seating system Macaron, developed by architecture studio Mecanoo in collaboration with Bert Plantagie. Inspired by the way people naturally gather and interact in shared spaces, the design proposes a flexible seating concept that adapts easily to different environments.

Elsewhere, installations by The Mosaic Factory, Jee-O, and Mind Oasis at Home by Rituals explore the idea of wellbeing at home, presenting spaces designed for relaxation, personal care, and everyday rituals.

Supporting emerging voices has long been part of Masterly’s identity. This year, the Wood & Furniture College (HMC)—a participant since the very first edition—returns with six selected graduation projects highlighting the next generation of Dutch designers. Collaborations continue throughout the exhibition. Van Besouw presents a site-specific installation that reimagines carpets as part of the spatial experience, while Hofstede Raanhuis introduces a new furniture concept designed by architect Hoeshmand Mahmoed. Outdoor living also takes centre stage through a joint installation by POLDR, Knops Tuindesign, and COOXS, where outdoor spaces are approached as an extension of interior design.

Conceptual reflections add another dimension to the exhibition. Designer and former trend forecaster Ellen Haeser presents the video work From Cradle to Grave – an Ode to Lifelong, Inexhaustible Sources of Inspiration, reflecting on the lasting value of objects beyond seasonal trends. Meanwhile, the collective Roots, led by Simone van Es, presents Sleeping Beauty, a Symbiotic Symphony, an installation that invites visitors to reconsider soil as a living ecosystem.

Material experimentation also appears throughout the exhibition. Avantium presents furniture made with Releaf, a plant-based recyclable polymer developed with Studio Hoogvliet Jongerius. Studio Etcetera introduces the sculptural Septa Chair, created through 3D printing using recycled plastics, while MYCOTEX presents KYTARIN, a refined biomaterial derived from mycelium.

Marking a decade of the exhibition, the retrospective “The Wunderkammer – 10 Years of Masterly”, curated by Lidewij Edelkoort together with Nicole Uniquole, revisits projects that have shaped the event’s journey over the past ten years. Installed in the central room on the second floor, the exhibition brings together works whose poetic aesthetics and originality have defined the history of Masterly. As Edelkoort describes it, the installation gathers “striking and unusual works” within what she calls “a special wunderkammer, a hybrid world of beauty and attention to material and detail,” celebrating creations that have broadened the idea of design over time.
