A Design-Driven Culinary Journey Where East and West Converge in the Heart of Ubud

In the cultural heart of Ubud, a new and soulful destination has opened its doors. Di Sini Di Sana by Rachman & Sons, conceived by internationally acclaimed interior designer Jonathan Rachman, is far more than a restaurant or boutique—it is a living journey through memory, design, and gastronomy. With a harmonious blend of Eastern heritage and Western sophistication, the space becomes both a tribute to family legacy and a contemporary stage for culinary and cultural storytelling.

A Designer’s Homecoming
After four decades in the United States and Europe—studying hospitality at Les Roches in Switzerland and building a celebrated career in interior design—Jonathan Rachman returns to Asia, dividing his time between San Francisco and Bali. Di Sini Di Sana embodies this homecoming. “For me, design and food are the most universal expressions of love,” says Jonathan. “Through Di Sini Di Sana by Rachman & Sons, I wanted to share both as a legacy to be felt, savoured, and cherished. This is my way of returning home to Indonesia with an open heart and hands filled with stories, memories, and creations.”

Architecture & Interiors: Traces of Two Worlds
The restaurant, Di Sini“Here” in Indonesian—anchors itself in Jonathan’s Eastern roots. At its heart stands the magnificent Tumpeng Sari, a nearly 200-year-old royal structure from Central Java, recently hand-gilded with 22-carat gold leaf. Surrounding it, Javanese Joglo architecture mingles with Balinese, Dutch Colonial, and Peranakan accents. Custom tiles, antique doors and windows, intricate wood paneling, and a glittering crystal chandelier set the tone for a space that feels both majestic and intimate.

Next door, Di Sana“There”—is a boutique and café, an ode to Jonathan’s life in Europe and the US. Here, bespoke wallpaper and textiles designed in collaboration with Patricia Nurchandra create an atmosphere that blends Old World refinement with personal narrative. Together, Di Sini and Di Sana form a dialogue between cultures, an architectural memoir where past and present converse in elegance.

Culinary Storytelling: A Menu Rooted in Memory
Just as the interiors weave East and West, so too does the menu. At Di Sini, Jonathan’s cherished family recipes—handed down by his grandmother, mother, and sister—are reimagined with precision and grace. The culinary offerings are not fusion, but authentic classics from both hemispheres: Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indian dishes presented alongside refined plates from France, Italy, and America.

This vision is brought to life by an exceptional team: Chef I Putu Yudi Yasa, Balinese by birth with international expertise, translates heritage recipes with global finesse. Chef I Made Aldi Danuarta, the Sous Chef, ensures flawless execution with technical mastery. Pastry Chef Tj. Azyet crafts desserts that are at once nostalgic and sophisticated, rooted in local flavors yet presented with couture elegance. Together, they compose a dining experience that honors tradition while embracing cosmopolitan refinement.

Among the highlights is Ubud’s famed grilled fish—a dish with deep roots in the very soil where the restaurant now stands. At Di Sini, it returns as both a nod to legacy and a new benchmark of presentation, embodying the restaurant’s philosophy of honoring the past while elevating it for today.

Hospitality as Art
Guests are welcomed with heartfelt gestures—refreshing welcome drinks (fermented drinks), delicate snacks, and attentive service delivered with genuine smiles. It is hospitality as an art form: polished yet personal, sophisticated yet soulful. More than patrons, guests become part of the Rachman family’s extended table.

A Destination in the Hills of Ubud
Perfectly located between Ubud’s bustling center and its luxurious hillside resorts, Di Sini Di Sana is just minutes from Ritz-Carlton Mandapa, Four Seasons Sayan, Amandari, and Como Shambhala. Nestled in a neighborhood made famous by Eat Pray Love, the restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, complete with tranquil views over rice fields.

A Place to Savor and Remember
In its essence, Di Sini Di Sana by Rachman & Sons is about memory, legacy, and belonging. It is a place where beautiful interior architecture tells stories, where cuisine recalls family traditions, and where service extends the warmth of home. With every detail, from gilded Joglo beams to grilled fish fresh from tradition, Jonathan Rachman has created a destination that is as much about feeling as it is about flavor. Di Sini Di Sana by Rachman & Sons stands today as one of Ubud’s most compelling addresses—a refined celebration of East and West, rooted in love and destined to be remembered.
